The Frontier

The Frontier is a region located in the westernmost territories of the Grand Duchy of Novaya and the easternmost region of Holzreich. Since the collapse of the Imperial League, the Frontier has been served as the primary area of hostilities in the frequent fighting between the two nations, particularly in and around the Grunga gap. The people of the Frontier are largely of mixed stock, with shared Novayan and Holzen ancestry and as such are generally not known as being particularly loyal to their respective nations, with many Frontiersmen having lived under both Novayan and Holzen rule. The Stena Mountains serve as a natural geographic border between Novaya and Holzreich, with the city of Grunga occupying the space between the end of the mountain range and the sea. This ensures that any would be traveller is required to either pass through the city of Grunga or ride north and go around the mountains.

Grunga

The city of Grunga is home to 50,000 inhabitants, none of whom remember a time when the city was at peace. Even during times of ceasefire, the city is rife with crime and corruption, as a city that is almost perpetually under siege has little time to prosper. Most locals have lived to see the city change hands, the most recent conquest being by Novaya in 193 IE. Ever since, the Reichguard have maintained a military camp just beyond archer range on the Holzen side of the border. It is of little surprise that the citizens of a city under constant threat lack optimism for the future.

Sosna Wood

On the Novayan side of the border at the base of the Stena Mountains lies the Sosna Woods, home of many small communes of Novayan druids and woodsmen who practice a wide array of animistic religions. Those not native to the Woodland rarely venture into it, with the Grand Duchy of Novaya preferring to do trade with communities on the edge of the Wood for lumber.

Stena Mountains

Holzens living on the western slopes of the Stena Mountains of long roamed the range, with knowledge of the ancient mountain paths being passed down through generations, applying it in contemporary times to guide Holzen miners to mineral deposits and Reichguard scouts into Novayan territory.
