Dalry/Almus War
The Dalry and Almus War began in early 784PS and ended on New Years Day of 785PS.
The war was started by Dalry, The Thirteenth and the Duke Parker Garrington, a famously hot-headed and unpopular leader, the Duke pushed back against perceived border infringements from their northern neighbour Almus, The Tenth, invading and taking small parcels of land along the border.
Many claim that these reasons were superficial, and that Duke Garrington actually invaded to try and stir up nationalistic propaganda to create support for his rule, invoking the historical rivalry between the two duchies that stretches back to The War of Emperors.
Many battles were fought along the border, both sides armies weakened due to the The Second Dawn/Ushgard War. A temporary truce was arranged due to pressure from the Emperor, but this would be broken by Almus when they attacked the forces of Dalry while their nobility was hosting an annual Winter Ball.
Many more border skirmishes would happen until Commander Neventer Le Moal led an attack on the Dalran army base camp, killing many of their men and Dalry's Master of Arms, Stennis Blackburn.
It would be revealed by The Abnormals that The Crimson Corsairs, a mercenary group under the employ of the Dalran Colonel Benedict Rivers, had deliberately leaked troop movements to Viscount Avellion Bereltar of Almus which allowed this brutal attack to happen.
With most of Dalry's army decimated and their leader dead, the officers would elect Colonel Rivers to the post of Master of Arms, who immediately ordered a full retreat.
It would be revealed on New Years Day that Countess Margret Beaumont, Colonel Rivers, and Avellion Bereltar were all involved in a grand conspiracy to weaken Garrington supporters within the court and replace them with Beaumont and her loyal forces. The conspiracy was aided by Lucius Optier Vedrix, an Emperor's Aide who was there to represent the Emperor's frustration with the Garrington family.
The coup was successful and the Garrington family and their supporters were exiled on pain of death, with Beaumont stepping into the reins of Duchess.
