    Culture

    Major language groups and dialects

Gnomish is the primary language of gnomish culture. Native speakers of Common occasionally find the language frustrating and confusing due to the number of false cognates the language shares with Gnomish.

    Shared customary codes and values

Gnomes value joy, wonder, and invention above all else. Experimentation, even failed experimentation, is celebrated and cherished.

    Art & Architecture

    Music

Gnomes have modified or outright invented a number of musical instruments influenced by other cultures but adapted for their short stature. Examples include the Futfök (a double bass-like device operated by foot pedals) and the Syúupërtrúujpër. Since so many gnomish instruments are mechanically complex, they are often only tuned to play in one or a few keys, and so any given band will be made up of performers with instruments specifically geared towards playing in the singer's favorite key. Gnomish music is therefore relatively harmonically simple, but often rhythmically complex. Popular gnomish genres include dirtstep, whistle choir, flowerviolence, and root rock.

    Funerary and Memorial customs

A gnome must be buried in their ancestral gnomelands, the land from which their ancestors were first carved. Tradition holds that the Soul of a gnome not returned to their land is never allowed to ascend to the Outer Planes.
