The Child – Episode 4

The Doctor finds a way.

On the threshold of the Vaer Quethrolas, our villains attempted to find some entrance among the five inscrutable ghost elm trees. It was Dr. Hughbert and Alizabeth, the latter enhanced by a jump serum and the former on her back, who leapt into the nearby branches and discovered the entrance, shouting down to the others about the small platform one hundred feet above the forest floor. One by one – by flight, by gliding, by jumping and climbing – the four villains approached the entrance. Agnoment, on their great wings, approached first and ran immediately into an elven sentry. Combat began.
The fallen angel intimidated the guard with their celestial presence. Alizabeth leapt across, the Doctor on her back, and clung to the trunk like an insect. Desdemonia glided across and murdered the guard with her short sword. Erick, meanwhile, could not quite make the jump and instead plummeted, managing to grab the tree trunk and sliding to a stop, some seventy feet below the entrance.
Fighting their way into the palace, the villains encountered additional guards within the hollowed-out trunk. Agnoment strung their celestial bow, Alizabeth leapt to the next target, the Doctor falling from her back, and literally ripped the guard apart. Entranced by the gore, Desdemonia spotted the next guard – tucked into a small sniper’s next off the spiral staircase that winds up the inside of the tree – and leapt at her with a short sword. While Alizabeth collected Dr. Hughbert, Agnoment flapped out the door and retrieved Erick from where he clung to the tree, depositing the frightened man in the center of the chaos.
Glancing around at the blood and the battle, Erick Idylvain placed the Mark of Yog over his heart and, as green fire pulsed through him, transformed into a charred, smoldering gargoyle.
