Imperial Federation
The Imperial Federation, once known the Peerage (more formally called the "Galtic Peerage") is a collective term for the Federation's self-appointed nobility. Once a secret society, over time, they have grown more overt, giving themselves titles and openly acting the part of the galactic aristocracy. In the Federation Civil War they declared the Imperial Federation and fundamentally rewrote the Federation Constitution. Katarina Leocadia has been elected the first Empress of the Imperial Federation.
Structure
The "peers" are a bit of a misnomer, because there are definite ranks within the organization. Unlike traditional noble hierarchies, The common ranks and titles are as follows:
Untitled peers who are in the line of inheritance for a mogul rank and above are called "Princes ". Other titleless peers are called "squires" (note the lack of capitalization).
During the title handout many independent spacers pledged their loyalty to the Peerage in exchange for the rank of entrepreneur.

Culture
Before the Imperial Federation was founded, the Peerage was essentially a social club for wealthy people. While normal citizens respected the Peerage for their wealth and power, it was seen by most as rich-people cosplay. The titles granted by it were largely informal and held no legal power (even though there were no shortage of people who played along).
Now that the Imperial Federation is an actual thing, it has given the Peerage a serious edge it never had before. The galas and balls and honors it was known for now confer serious power. As such, the internal politics of the organization has become more real too. It is no mere social club, and it never was.
Public Agenda
The official political philosophy of the Peerage is Paternal-Objectivism. As such, it promotes consolidating power under singular authorities, the most "valuable" members of society called the patrien. Since social organization derives from the patrien, the success of society is integrally tied to the success of the patrien.
According to the Peerage, the only way to determine a patrien from normal citizens is through laissez-faire Capitalism and blood inheritance. Patrien believe Capitalism died with the rise of the Socialist Federation (nobody calls the Federation "socialist" except them), and so the only remaining way to determine the patrien is through descent of the ancien patrien, the Captains of Industry between the 1700s and 2050s.
Assets
The Peerage's navy and ground forces are weaker than the Terran Dictate, but they have the edge when it comes to wealth and technology. With the resources of the Federation's sparkworlds, the Imperial Federation has access to the most powerful ships, battlegears, and implants. The most important ship in their fleet is the The Savior, an unmatched battlecarrier that outclasses anything the Dictate can throw at it. In addition, the Peerage can call upon the legion knights, incredibly skilled and well-armed warriors.
History
The early history of the Peerage is lost, but it is known it was a secret fraternity that had a hand in the creation of the Federation of Earth-Originating Peoples. Over time, the Peerage has become more overt. Some time during the 22nd and 23rd centuries Peerage members started to openly call each other by their "titles".
To most observers, the Peerage was a rich-people social club and nothing more. But the Peerage always had a great deal of informal power by virtue of their wealth. The Peers often got their way, and they started being treated like nobility in worlds where their power was strong.
By skullduggery, Peerage members have laid claim to every sparkworld except Earth, reaching a position of authority and power, turning the Intercolonial Senate into a "House of Lords" rather than representatives of planets. In the 25th and 26th century, the Peerage's control of the ICS was an established fact, giving them control of most of the Federation's government.
The magnetospheric catastrophe came as a complete surprise and upended the Peerage's agenda completely. Anti-Peerage and anti-sparkworld sentiment had always been present in Solspace, but now they had a powerful ally in Earth and the Global Central Government. Fearing retribution, the Peerage-aligned Gaios Conlaoch fled Earth to Avignon. When the ICS was pursued by Dictate forces, it was known that things had devolved into civil war.
The Conference of Avignon laid out the foundations for a true Imperial Federation. In addition, they legitimized their titles and made them legally binding. At the end of the conference, after much politicking and deal-making, Katarina Leocadia was elected Empress despite being one of the more minor candidates.
The opening phase of the Federation Civil War was bad for the Peerage, after losing the sparkworlds New Sahara and Mont Blanc. One of the Katarina's first actions was to stabilize the Imperial Federation's borders by granting titles to powerful people who pledged loyalty to the Peerage. This was a controversial decisions given many of them were not descended from the patrien (and some were even sankari), but it worked.
Hope for a short war has now faded. Preparations are being made for a long, drawn out conflict with the Terran Dictate. The Fifth Interstellar seems to be a fly in the ointment, but surely those plebs won't pose a serious threat.
