Thumboll Species in Nimenra | World Anvil

Thumboll

Dwarves usually don't like mice and other small squalor introducing creatures in their homes (not that we Humans do either!). They have despite this unliking breed a species of rodent that is called the "Thumboll". These are used to send messages quickly with haste which is unlike any other rodent I have seen! An extraordinary small creature, unexpected even.

The thumboll is a rodent that unlike many mice and rats of similar size is accepted into many Dwarven holds, towns and larger houses to be used as messengers. Thumbolls can run much quicker and are even able to roll up into a small ball to travel in haste in the walls of houses and makes little to no sounds while doing so.

Anatomy

Like other rodents, the thumball is quadrupedal and has a small body that can grow to be as big as 15-20 centimetres in length. Its legs can extend to 5 centimetres and has griping claws, making it an adept climber as well. These claws are retractable, leaving soft paws that make little sound. The tail is short on many and doesn't grow beyond being a fuzzy stump or no more than 1 centimetre. It has two notably larger teeth that are used to gnaw on food and in the wild to gnaw into trees.

Rolling rodant

The unique ability this small fuzzy creature has is the capability of rolling itself into a sphere or rather a small ball-like form. They use this form to roll quickly, upwards of 7 meters a second, downhill or on flat ground with enough speed from their running start. This form is used in the wild to avoid the many bird species that hunt them in Marlun and Telamirein.
