The Longest Evening

Celebrated as the survival over the years winter, The Longest Evening is a Wanerian celebration that has over time become a major event across both Ravero and Nilaminra. Celebrated through a day off work to tell stories of both their Gods like Isnaras the Maiden of Winter and Rivers and Kallamer, the God of the Evening-dark and Animalkinship and about their family. Most have it as a remembrance day to their family and the struggle of survival in the winter months.

Execution

When the time is at hand for the celebration, the house is lit up with usually a large fire through a brazier or a larger fire pit. During the day, many will tell tales about the Gods like the Creation of the World or other tales about the Gods. When usually two or three about the Gods has been told there are tales about the family or relatives, and sometimes even friends. Many are themed around the time of year, some are about how disputes where solved, how people met and some about how comical events have happened.
When the time for tales are over, a small feast with fish, bread and, usually only with Wanerians, red wine and the red butter made with rhubarb and sweetening. The sweet taste with the sour has this peculiar taste a Wanerian specific serving.

Components and tools

The Brazier, or a large fire pit, is essential for the telling of tales. The fire is used to create shadow displays at times and enhances the spoken word according to many.
For Wanerians the red butter is a must-have for the serving of bread. Made with rhubarb and rock-sweetening, this desert and the traditional dish is mostly ignored by Renvarens and other cultures. Other traditional dishes that are served are fish from rivers (both underground and exposed) and if available some type of wine of either grapes or fruits.

Participants

Everyone participates that can, most of the time it is close family and maybe some friends. Large gatherings are rare but can occur in smaller villages or tight-knitted communities.
