The shield of Reliona is a large round shield that was given to the first Heroine of Reliona. The simple and yet decorated front has endured millennia of use by Heroines since and remains as if untouched from the day it was given by the Goddess. It has served as a symbol of hope and trust for many souls all over Telamirein and its countries.
Properties
The shield is completely made of metal, seemingly iron or steel. The metal does not wear down by battle and age since it has endured longer than any other known object. It is magically imbued by the Goddess to protect its user as she is protecting those in need. The magic surrounding it shines at times with a red hue. According to legend, the true power of the shield will only show itself once the Heroine is "true of noble character and 'let herself be herself', be guided by her and the Goddess".
When I had the chance to study the shield, I felt nothing magical about it. It was as if the shield was only a piece of metal. But I let myself not be deceived, the traces are faint, but Reliona's touch still surrounds it, however, small the hints are... — Everam, Teller of Nimenra
History
The past of the shield is clouded and dimed by legends and myths related to the Heroine and Reliona Herself. While scholars and religious authorities have tried to follow the shield with every step, it all falters at key points where the shield seems to even appear twice at the same time in the hands of different characters. What is sure, however, is that the first Heroine carried the shield to battle during the War of the Gods.
The First Heroine
It is not fully known when the first of the Heroines appeared. Some say that she appeared when the War of the Gods started. Others tell different stories, that it was firstly during the end that she appeared. Whatever the case, the Heroine was mature enough to carry the shield into battle, defeating one of The Other Gods' champions. The shield protected against foul magic, ice and terror and all hopelessness that the champion carried. With the magical hope that the shield imbued the Heroine, she was able to kill this champion with her sword in the other hand. The shield is said to have been turned green and yellow by the champion's final magical attack. The First Heroine's shield was laid to rest with her in a hidden grave.
Leonira, Heroine during the Unweaving
Ages passed after the First Heroine and a new age began on Nimenra. From a young age, Leonira was destined to become the Heroine to fight against the evil of its time. Leonira, however, was defeated early by Orios, who had arrived to defeat her because of the threat she presented to His followers. Scared and later abandoned after her third defeat, she could have become the last Heroine of Reliona. Then she found the shield, hidden in a grove beside a mighty stag. As she picked it up, the stag kissed her shoulders before disappearing into the forest again. With the shield she once again returned and defeated Orios' followers, himself not appearing to fight her. She restored faith in the Heroine and would become a leader of a tribe in Minrans.
