Mott

Mott are the smallest of the Giants, standing no taller than a shrub and often mistaken for Pinpurinnin. Their skinny bodies are topped by a large, cat-like head though with long, limp ears like those of a beagle. Unblinking eyes take in everything and they relay their thoughts in telepathic silence to one another. They are mute, save for rare bird-like screeches of warning or fright.   Mott have incredible intelligence and found complex cultures and religions. They gather in miniature cities built in deep woodlands. Though they are scattered throughout the land, the great number of them are concentrated in the Greenbelt.   There are three major ethnic groups.   The Gommott is the collective name for the Mott of the Greenbelt. Several hundred such groups exist, numbering anywhere from 10 to 60 individuals. They are all united under a nation led by elected representatives who convene at the capitol in To-dotad. Most groups are peacable, follow an old faith called Damode, and value traditions, history, and the natural world.   The Nat-memmott occupy specifically the Sutherland Pineywood between Cantra and Helphar. They are more mischievous than their Gommott cousins and favor living on the fringes of other creatures' settlements. It is from this group where the confusion with Pinpurinnin is the greatest. These folk have larger eyes and longer ears for better sensing in the darker woodlands. Though there settlements are fewer than the Gommott, they are far larger. The largest such settlement, Hinnin-hum at the heart of the woodland, has a populace in the thousands. The Nat-memmott are inventive and apply their intelligence to tools and more efficient ways for doing tasks. However their tolerance for hard labor is pitiful and most inventions lay unfinished on shoddy workbenches as their owners go out and steal food from their human neighbors.   The Patta-motta groups stretch from the base of Aposfabria to the northeasternmost point of the continent, clustering in a dense swampland on the east coast called the Ad'jattar. Like the Gammott, they are organized into a single civilization. Representatives from larger groups spread along the coast meet yearly in the swampland city of Tolda-memorg. The religion of the Patta-motta is a corrupted form of Helenaphism in which an unnamed nature goddess gave birth to the world and its people. There is an older, more fragmented faith but it disappeared soon after Helenaphe's arrival and the invasion of humans into their lands. The Patta-motta are fishing and trading people who freely interact with other Giants, humans, and beastmen. They value invention and intellect and have independently devised many technologies including fishing trawls, animal traps, boats, looms, and even a primitive form of air conditioning powered by Earth Impel. Though they lack schools and libraries to document this knowledge, for they view invention as a pastime or way of life rather than a means to improve society.
