Session 7 - Eleanor's Selflessness
General Summary
The group continues their travels, having two relatively uneventful days on the road. Skinny learns to use a bow and more about reading and writing, Hamilton Caldwell learns more about Nevurdul’s sights, and Sasha successfully crafts a bow for Skinny.
One morning, Eleanor is not in her usual spot resting. Skinny discovers this, and tells Cookie to inform Sasha and Hamilton. Skinny wanders on ahead, following footprints that appear to be Eleanor’s. Meanwhile, Cookie tells Sasha and Hamilton about the situation, believing Eleanor is dead.
Sasha, Hamilton, and Cookie all rush out into the woods, following the footsteps. Skinny discovers Eleanor in the woods digging through a pack, and when Skinny confronts her, she attempts to deflect. Once everyone else arrives, Eleanor stops her attempts and comes clean, telling the group about a small cluster of Feral Zso in a nearby clearing she discovered.
She asks the others to help her, in case something goes wrong as she attempts to give the Zso supplies. The group agrees to help and await their time to strike in the bushes. Eleanor steps out, trying to look as innocent as possible. The Zso circle around her, suspicious of her intentions. One of them lunges at her, and Skinny fires off his bow, hitting it in the neck. The others are enraged by this and a fight begins.
During the fight, Eleanor is critically injured from a bite to the neck, and Sasha rushes in and saves her. The group manages to take down the Zso, with Hamilton leaving one alive.
Back at the carriage, with Eleanor unconscious, the group decides to press on in hopes of getting Eleanor proper medical attention in Luxury Acres.
During their travels, Skinny learns a little about driving a carriage from Hamilton, and Sasha watches over Eleanor. Cookie pokes at Eleanor’s bandaging, and Sasha gets upset and lashes out at her. Skinny intervenes and convinces Sasha to back down.
The group eventually arrives at Luxury Acres, and are approached by a darker-skinned man who demands everyone steps out of the carriage. Everyone does as they’re told, with Sasha holding Eleanor in her arms. The man introduces himself as Reginald Barnette, and summons the head of his troop, Elias. Elias stares down the group, then asks Sasha to put Eleanor down. Sasha complies, and is met with a kick to the face from Elias. She goes to retaliate, but is held back by Hamilton and Skinny. Elias nods to Reginald, and the group is let in shortly thereafter. Eleanor is taken to the doctor to be tended to.
They are brought to Strain Manor, where they meet Luca Strain, the wealthiest man in Nevurdul. He is in the middle of speaking with a man in shining armor, and a man in a fine suit. Their meeting quickly adjourns, and Luca focuses his attention on the group. He welcomes them to Luxury Acres, but when asked about Oscar Barnette, he denies their request to take him, as he is a child. Luca does mention that, since Reginald is Oscar’s uncle and guardian, he has the final say. Lastly, Luca offers to take Cookie off the group’s hands, and Skinny insists that it be a decision Cookie makes. She says she needs time to think, and the group is escorted out of the room, free to explore Luxury Acres!
