Forgotten Plateau

The Forgotten Plateau is a triangular, horseshoe shapes island to the south with high mountains surrounding a low plateau. The temperature ranges from a temperate forest to the north, then transitioning to a cold taiga and tundra further south. The southern most reaches are mainly covered in thich glaciers and ice sheets.

Geography

The Forgotten Plateau is the most southern continent, and is very cold. However, despite the cold, there are still rather large taiga forests that are able to grow in the northern plateaus. These plateaus are surrounded by a semi-circle bowl of mowntains that curve around the edges of the continent, flattening out across the north in a horseshoe shape. This continent is also the location for the portal to the Elemental Plane of Earth on Mount Aurora, a tall mountain defended by a druidic circle and a site for beautiful night-time aurora displays.

Fauna & Flora

The temporate and taiga forests on the Forgotten plateau support a variety of wildlife that is unexpected for so far south. One of which are the indiginous white monkeys, which swing through the evergreen pinetrees and are able to survive the cold temperatures by cuddling up together in tree hollows and caves. They also make use of natural springs across their territories on the plateau. Many species of seals are known to come to the northern wetlands to breed, fuelling a controvercial fur industry that thrives in these lands. The mountains also contain many burrowing creatures that live within the rich mountains, away from the frigid surface.

Natural Resources

Fishing is one of the main industries of this continent, but forestry is also quite significant, especially in the more temporate forests. The fur industry from hunting the seals that breed in the northern wetlands is also quite strong, for the warmth the fur provides as well as the very fatty seal meat for food. The mountains are very rich with resources, but are revered due to the importance of the Portal to the Elemental Plane of Earth, and are usually not disturbed. There are many burrowing creatures that make the moutains very important to the ecosystem, but also quite dangerous to mine in anyways even without the cultural influences. Most food productions is obtained through fishing and hunting.
Forgotten Plateau:
Forgotten Plateau
The Forgotten Plateau is one of the 4 continents. It is very far south, and thus is very icy. The weather variation is quite extreme, with a tendancy for long winters with long nights, and very short summers. At the most southern points, it can stay in a perpetual winter night for half a year as it's tilted away from the sun, then the summer lasts the rest of the year in perpetual sun and slightly warmer day. The bitter cold is an extreme environment to live in, and thus the populations of settled peoples are smaller and prefer the more northern edges of the landmass. Some races are more able to cope with the extreme cold weather better, and set up nomadic tribes further south, but these are usually less than 100 strong, and very rare to encounter.
