Asterton

Established in 2131 TR (10921 DR) as a monastery for many different faiths to come together in common worship and discussion, Asterton began its existence as a rather benign mark on the world. That being said, it has always been a place defended by the Hallowed Union, the good and neutral gods that protected mortals during the war between gods.   Then just over 200 years later, after the Sundering, it was repurposed as a site to prevent another war between gods, and as foothold to begin healing the corrupted regions. At this time, the Assembly of Asteria was formed and the first Holy Aster was anointed. The multi-faith fortified monastery Asterton underwent a radical shift to religious metropolis over the next 100 years, dramatically expanding both in size & population, but also purpose. As their influence expanded, they ended the Spell Plague and begin trying to heal the Withered Lands.   As the largest city in and around the Withered Lands, this has become the defacto ruling power in the region. This is the only full-fledged "free" city in the entire region, but that freedom comes at a price. The religions that helped build the city up are the only ones tolerated, and the arcane arts are forbidden within these walls. It has become a holy location for many of the religions of Myrandria, and boasts the largest number of clerics and paladins for a single city in the entire world. Many seek to make a pilgrimage to this city in order to receive advanced training in the healing arts, or to better understand the dark arts. The city is so large that it rivals the capital of Tor in sheer size, although it is not as heavily influenced by trade. Grand cathedrals and monasteries litter this behemoth of a holy city.
