Crystal-eye is a disease mostly seen in elderly people all over the world. The disease ends with the affected turning blind, but unlike other diseases that makes you blind, this one results in oversensitivity to magical energy. Like with Post-Combustion Stress Disorder, the affected will be able to feel the magic in the things around them.
Many of those who have crystal-eye end up being able to see the magic as well, as the only thing they're able to see. Most of those able to see magic say it's like seeing small stars in the night, blue and white galaxies lighting up the dark.

Anyone able to feel magic is sure to be able to survive since many people want to know whether or not they have Magic combustion. It's possible for crystal-eyes to see the magic build-up and warn them before it even happens. They're also able to see the severeness of a person's magic combustion, as more magic build-up leads a more intense glow for those with crystal eyes.

The shrines had to be built in locations with an abundance of natural magical energy in the surroundings. Those with crystal-eye could locate that with ease, no guessing. This made them extremely important and many saw the sickness as a blessing from Arkna given to wise elderly people. When the magic disappeared, the crystal-eyed people got a new purpose. When people no longer could unlock the gateway inside them so that the magic could flow free, then the magic builds up inside them. This often leads to the dangerous condition known as Magic combustion because of the way it usually ends out for the affected. Crystal-eyed people can see if someone has magic build-up and therefore warn them to stay somewhere where no one else can be hurt by the blast that might follow.
