Hueck Greyhall

Duke Hueck Greyhall

Biological parent of Tertius Greyhall. Hueck Greyhall was the first born child of Duncan Greyhall and Gwyneth Greyhall-Sloani. He had two younger siblings, the twins Grace Garrington-Greyhall and Gulliver Greyhall. Duncan was a difficult father, absent with affection and pushing a sense of competition and ambition among his children. However, with Duncan's passing, Hueck gained the title of Duke regardless of the ambitions of his siblings.   However, understanding his sibling's similar ambition for power, he realized quickly that he needed an heir. He married Aoibhinn Greyhall-McGowan and set to have an heir. However, they were unsuccessful at having children.   Fearing that his sister who had married a rival lord and was with child would make a play for his title, Hueck approached the Boora Coven of hags in Boora Bog. There he asked them for "a son that would one day take his place." Hueck knew that there would be a price, but took the bargain anyhow and Aoibhinn was soon with child.   Tertius Greyhall was born to the pair. Tertius was not a tactitician or warrior like his father--this was obvious from a very early age, despite his father's pressings. Instead, Tertius had a passion for horses, like his mother. When Aoibhinn died after being thrown from a horse, Hueck tried to push more of a martial history into his son, having the Captian of the Guard Garry Holdenbrook spar with him, to no avail. Fearing that there would be payment eventually, Hueck had told Tertius to always avoid the Boora Bog.   When Tertius was eight, Hueck made a political arrangement with Queen Emeldawn Alistair of the neighboring Kingdom of Louth. Tertius would marry her half-elven daughter, Princess Ireltharis Alistair, who was also eight. This would tie the two kingdoms together. For Emeldawn, the arrangement was of little threat, since being a full blooded elf, she would outlive her daughter before she had a chance to take her throne. However, Hueck had planned to have Emeldawn assassinated once Tertius was married to Ireltharis, giving his son (and by proxy, himself) more political power. However, the plot was discovered before the children had grown and married and Emeldawn cancelled the arranged marriage, though Tertius never knew the reason why.   When the Gentlemen's League of Explorers and Adventurers was passed onto the party after the passing of Wendell Cuthbert Wallace, the party inherited Wendell's debt. Hueck made a deal with the party to take Tertius with them and to teach him how to be a "real man", expecting him to be taught to be a warrior and adventurer. Tertius was... marginally successful at this method, though he did not have the strength to weild a heavy sword. Eventually, he took to the rapier, which was much easier for him to wield.   Hueck had originally wanted Tertius and the League to return a group of escaped convicts to Eastbridge, feeling that it would be a sign of strength to have his son be a part of the group to return the convicts and make Eastbridge safe. However, Tertius and the League refused, instead moving to help the convicts into another land. Hueck ended up hiring the adventuring company, the Heroes of Halfbrook to return the criminals, unaware that his sister, Grace, had orchestrated the adventuring group to help Hueck and, unknown to him at the time, had her son, Harrison Garrington, among the adventuring group. Thus, when the group returned claiming victory, Harrison was one of the celebrated heroes, giving him status among the people of Eastbridge.   Hueck had hired Rieta, Kaal, and Not-Levi (believing it to be Real-Levi), to deliver a message to Queen Finnea Mirabar while the rest of the League were gone. Unaware that Not-Levi was actually a creation from the Boora Coven, the message was switched and delivered. The message delivered was not the message Hueck had intended to send to the Queen, but instead a written account of Hueck's plan to assassinate Queen Emeldawn.   Hueck was brought in to the Queen and was forced to admit that everything in the letter was true. He was placed under house arrest in Caer Cenwynn. With Hueck under arrest, the title of Duke went to Tertius. Tertius visited his father where he was being held and he told Tertius about his bargain with the hags and that he always knew there would be a catch. Hueck said that he assumed that the catch was simply the way Tertius turned out.   However, Hueck instead realized that the hags had done exactly what he has asked them to do. With Hueck's arrest and the transfer of title, Hueck had a son who would one day take his place.
