Duchy of Fàsach
The Duchy of Fàsach was established after Liam Greyhall was commissioned to "tame" the wild borderlands of the Kingdom of Kildare. Liam established Eastbridge Camp as a base of operations to expand out into the surrounding lands. At the time, there was a larger fey population which caused trouble for settlers, as well as a number of goblin tribes that made home in the territory. Liam's expedition was considered harsh towards the indigenous populations, but it cleared way for more stable and larger human settlements to grow in the region. As reward for his effort, Liam Greyhall was offered the territory as a duchy beneath the King of Kildare--a title that has remained in the family since. Eastbridge Camp became the capitol of the duchy as it expanded and grew into Eastbridge.
Fàsach has been cleared to provide fertile farmlands that produce enough food to export to Caer Cerwynn. Fàsach also exports timber and clay to Caer Cerwynn and its neighboring regions. Fur trapping is also a lucrative business with trappers beginning at Myrloch and sailing down along the river, trapping as they go, and selling their wares at Caer Cerwynn. Fàsach is also known for its breed of light, swift horses. Since the primary need for mounts in Fàsach tend to be for draft horses to pull plows and farming equipment, most of the Fàsach horses are exported for scouting and speed.
The Windthorn river offers a trade route to Caer Cenwynn and the protection of the waterways is one of the Duchy's responsibilities. Ships and skiffs travel down the river to Caer Cenwynn, but to return to Fàsach, ships must either sail out and around, reentering through Kilalda Bay and return through Myrloch, or they have draft horses pull the ship back upstream toward Eastvale. As a result, Fàsach exports more than it imports, but has become fairly useful to Caer Cenwynn and Kingdom of Kildare.
Culture
Fàsach people tend to be practical, salt-of-the-earth people. They are frontier farmers and loggers and due to the proximity of Myrloch, and the river that runs from it, they are suspicious of fey interlopers. It is not uncomming for a merchant to have a single iron nail that rises up, not fully hammers, on their counter. Whenever an exchange it made, the merchant will touch to item or coins to the iron to see if it disrupts a fey charm or illusion.
Fàsach people tend to be very self-reliant. Their Dukes come from a lineage of nobles who would fight for their territory personally, and many Fàsach people respect strength over intellect, but practicality is most respected of all.
