The Silver Spire

Perhaps the best known single structure across the world of Mistburn, the Silver Spire is a testament to even improving and evolving capabilities of the Republic's Shapers. It is home to the Academy of Magica and where some of the greatest Shapers of the world have trained. It is also home to the Piercing Council, a body that focuses on furthering efforts in recovering the secrets of Shaping that were lost in the Mist Fall.   While technically a part of the Republic of Emirr, the denizens of the Silver Spire maintain an apolitical approach to dealing with the world. This sometimes chaffs the feelings of the Republic's political elite, but the approach has worked well and most in the government are loathe to try and fix something that is not broken. This hand's off approach has allowed the Spire to rise in reputation across the world and most other organizations freely share anything they learn with the Spire as a result.

Purpose / Function

  • The Academy: The Silver Spire is known as one of the most successful Magica teaching and training centers across the known world. This is enhanced as a result of the Spire's open policy for prospective students from anywhere. It is rumored they are even willing to accept students from the Church of Order, though given the Church's public animosity both towards the Spire, and all things related to Shaping in general, no Church student has ever applied. There have, however, been a number of Exiles who fled the Church's Inquisition when they learned they had the ability to Shape.
  • The Piercing Council: The Piercing Council oversees the Spire's efforts to unlock the mysteries of the Mist Fall and rediscover lost knowledge related to Shaping. It often works closely with the Seeker's Cabal in furtherance of this goal. The Piercing Council also monitors and influences governments from across Mistburn as part of their efforts to further their own knowledge, and limit the The Church of Order's political influence.
  • The Sculptor's Guild: Shaping, as any proper Guild member will inform the curious, is about more than creating fire from thin air, or stitching wounds back together. With advanced knowledge of Shaping, and of the world itself, a Shaper can train to rise into the ranks of a Sculptor. These men and women are masters of not simply imbuing mundane items with magical abilities, but of crafting fully functional objects from thin air. It is the Sculptor's Guild that is chiefly responsible for the architectural wonders of Palisade's city center.

Architecture

The Silver Spire is an almost organic structure, with a seamless, mirror-like surface that never seems to suffer the rigors of nature like most structures of its sort would. The Spire was not built in the traditional sense, but rather looked to have been grown. More than 500 Sculptors spend more than a decade slowly adding to the massive structure. Only Shapers are allowed within the building, and they are sworn to secrecy on exactly what is inside the mirrored exterior. Surrounding the structure is a large park, meticulously maintained by both students and instructors of the Academy.
