Church of Order

The Church of Order is more of an authoritarian government heavily steeped in the trappings of religion than it is a true religion. Considered by many to be the most dangerous and aggressive political entity on Mistburn, they actively seek to expand their influence and control over the world. The Church's center of power lies within the black walled city of Ordus but their tentacles of influence and control extend far and wide.

Public Agenda

  • The Church of Order believes that utter order and control is the only path to the salvation of civilization. Further, they believe that those who look to the past to secure the future are only inviting the same sort of disaster that befell the civilization that existed before Mist Fall. The Church actively seeks to stop those who pursue such explorations and research and are willing to take both covert and overt actions in pursuit of their goals.
  • Within their own borders the populations are controlled with rigid rules and institutional structures that dictate virtually every aspect of a common citizens day-to-day life. The population is not, in the Chruch's mind, individuals but rather a single whole whose sole purpose is to support the Chruch's goals. Individualism is not tolerated but instead is pursued and stamped out zealously. Attempts to split with the Church, and its philosophy, is considered heretical. Those who are caught in such efforts are publicly tried and punished. Witnessing such an event is enough to keep even the strongest in line.

History

  • The Church of Order claims to trace their origins to the Mist Fall itself. While the truth of this statement cannot be verified their is no doubt that that the Church is one of the oldest formal organizations on Allo.
  • The earliest official records, outside of the Church's own archives, speak of a nomadic group who preached of the dangers of looking into the past and the civilization whose own actions caused the Mist Fall. That civilization was powerful and advanced, they would say, but were never satisfied with their achievements and always forged ahead in their pursuit of power and knowledge, heedless of any dangers in their path. That recklessness brought about destruction and misery leading to the Mist Fall and costing untold lives. To pursue the past is to invite that destruction to be visited upon those who have come out of the Mist.
  • In time, the nomadic group grew in power. They began to do more than simply preach. Instead, they would actively suppress other groups to their will. If reports of relics of the past reached their ears agents would be dispatched to destroy those relics and silence any who might seek to exploit them. With the world still reeling from the Mist Fall many were drawn to the group. For many, the group was a source of stability and safety. For others, this early form of the Church represented a way to increase their own power and authority in the world.
  • Exactly when the group shifted from its nomadic ways to the establishment of Ordus is not certain. Lore has it that the nomadic group discovered something from before the Mist Fall that troubled and frightened the leaders. To hide it from the world, the Church of Order was formally established and the city of Ordus was built to cover the discovery. Whether this is true or not, the founding of Ordus and the formalization of the Church was the beginning of its true rise to power.

Foreign Relations

Republic of Emirr The combination of the Republic's belief in person freedom and individuality as well as its active pursuit of the secrets of what existed before Mist Fall have placed it directly in the cross-hairs of the Church of Order. Unfortunately for the Church, the Republic is a powerful force in its own right with a number of powerful allies backing it up. The two have crossed swords on more than one occasion but the costs have been such that the Church has been hesitant to pursue a true Jihad against it. Most believe that it is only a matter of time before that final step is taken by the Church.
