The Faceless
Life within the Church is controlled and directed. What one does in the service of the Church is determined by the Church itself. There is no better demonstration of this than the Faceless.
Candidates for the Faceless are selected at a young age, often before a child's seventh birthday. When selected, the child is taken from their home and placed in a training cadre of similar aged children. From that point on, they are bombarded with intensive Church doctrine and grueling physical training. Like may military training regimes, the goal is to first break down a potential candidate, then build them into a new, more disciplined, person. In the Church's case, they also instill an utter loyalty to the Church, building a mutual reliance between the soldier and the Church of Order. The soldier learns that one cannot exist without the other.
The Faceless are so named due to their tradition of hiding their identity behind armored helmets and masks. When facing off against a formation of these men, one can only see an array of virtually identical figures. The commander's of the Church's forces even go the extent of ensuring that all members of a given unit are close to the same height. Soldiers whom have faced off against them, and survived, have said the effect is eerie enough to shake even the most experienced man before the battle is even joined. Adding to this reputation is the utter silence in which the Faceless do battle. They do not cry out in rage before a battle, or scream during one. They stay utterly silent with little more than a grunt of pain when impaled upon a sword or spear. Only the officers and non-commissioned officers speak during a battle, and even then, they utilize a special cant that has become known as the Silent Song. None, outside of the ranks of the Faceless itself, can speak or understand the language.
