Emperor Zane Astalles (a.k.a. The Dragon from the west)

Emperor Zane Astalles were one of the 5 rulers during The Decade of 5 Emperors where he ascended to the throne amidst a time of political turmoil after the previous empress, Empress Elenora Astalles had died after having been ambushed by some of the rebels.
During his short reign, he faced immediate challenges to his authority, he was the first Dercian ruler to not have been crowned in the capital city of Pearlhal which lead many of the nobles to question his authority but like many of the rulers before him, Zane gathered support from the legions and with them backing him up, he was able to get the nobles in order.
As a person, Zane was known for his youthful vigour, and strategic intellect and despite being without a proper capital, the loyalists having opted not to find a new one after having been driven from Pearlhal, this was mainly to signal that they would someday come to claim the city back and that the rebels could never sleep comfortably knowing that the loyalists armies might return any day.
Zane's last battle was the siege of Hibernia where many say that he was one of the first loyalists to scale the walls and clear out a section of them, but a stray arrowhead hit him in the leg and despite the wound being small it got infected and before anyone noticed the infection had spread to much for the healers magic to do anything, in an attempt to avoid the Loyalists splitting over who to follow, Zane announced that Emperor Malthin II should follow him on the throne, despite this there a few legions that at first refused to follow Malthin but after The trouble of succession with what many scholars have described as the best mock battle in history, the legions sided with Malthin and the Loyalists had now found the leader that would help them win the war.
Zane gained his nickname "Dragon of the West" when he first appeared after the death of Empress Elenora, Zane had spent his time gathering a large legion to the west and when he came into the public eye, it was a force with a larger section of cavalry than were typical for a Dercian legion but during the first battle he took part in, it said that he fought as a dragon, from then on it didn't take long for the public to create the title, Zane wore it proudly until the day he died.
