Session 49
The Party decided that they would seek out the help of The Fool but they would have to wait until the next day when the curfew would be lifted. The following morning, the Party set out in search of members of the The Fool. First they took a few minutes to look around the area where they had heard the yelling the night before. They searched the area as best as they could, but between the 10 or so hours since the event and the morning's traffic in the area, they found nothing. They turned back to their objective of finding The Fool and headed south.
Their first stop was just a few blocks away at The Godly Mice Inn. They walked into the bar, which was about the same size as the Lush Toad Tavern from whence they came. As they did so, sitting right there in front of them, passed out on a table, was none other than Berga Dustbrook. The barkeep, the halfling Feras Bolgee, looked up and smiled at his patrons. That smile was replaced soon after by a scowl of sorts as he remembered their last encounter. The group sat down at Berga's table and roused her awake. It took a minute, but she soon lifted her head and wiped the sleep out of her eyes. The picture soon came into focus and she at once smiled at her friends. Then she pushed her chair back and threw up all over the floor. Feras frowned and opened the back door, letting in his dog to come clean up the mess.
Berga wiped away the sick from her chin and asked what they were doing back in town. She caught the Party up on all the happenings; about the fighting in the keep just a few days ago, about the men in black setting up checkpoints all across the city, and how several nobles had been rounded up and imprisoned. The group asked if Jencerys Paren was around and available for contact. Berga confirmed this and offered to take them to her. The group got up and headed out of the tavern.
As soon as they opened the door, a crossbow bolt shot through the air and hit Berga in the shoulder. Others flew by and hit Bloodbane or the wall. The people on the street screamed and fled the scene while the rest of the Party attempted to stream out as quickly as they could. Once they did so, more men in black armor came from the other side of the tavern. The group rallied and Sir Didymus launched into an attack with his sword, Frost Brand at one of the guards. The guard fought back and another one slammed into Berga, forcing her to duck back into tavern's doorway. Typhon quickly cast Bigsby's Hand and took out a guard. Bloodbane and Vigwalin pressed attacks of their own and between them were able to take out a guard. The half-orc barbarian rushed up to Sir Didymus's defense as he became flanked. With a slash from his electrified axe, Ravager, he sliced through the plate armor the guard wore, dropping him immediately. The group rallied as they secured one flank and began work on the other, methodically taking out the guards.
Before long, the guards sent to kill them lay dead on the ground. The Party began to rifle through their possessions in search of clues to their identities...
