Age of Growth Myth in Mezclandia | World Anvil

Age of Growth

From Chicue's sacrifice in the The Age of Dreams , from the flesh and bones and blood and dreams of the goddess, were born two new gods, Cielida of the Sky and Llauvo of the Waters. They permeated a new world with the remains of the Ancestor and their own power to bring forth new life.

Celida stirred the air and lit the skies, giving birth to weather and elementals of air and energy. Llauvo rained the waters down from the skies and collected it in the low places, giving birth to the seas and the rivers, of the elementals of water and earth. The air and water and light saturated the earth, giving birth to plants that fed off energy and are rooted in matter.

The newborn creatures grew larger and more numerous. For a thousand years, they lived, creatures of light and energy and movement blooming in a golden age of peace and prosperity.

But in their undying fecundity, they overgrew the world, each growing atop the other until they choked the clouds and entangled the sun. The cycle of energy from Celida to Llavo and back stopped, the gods entombed. The land became arid and cold and dark. The creatures grew thin and wretched and cried out for help. The dreaming ghost of Chicue heard their cries and told them that if they wanted back their life and gods, they had to accept their deaths.

They were fearful, but they accepted that they must die. They died in their thousands and their millions, and Chicue led their souls into her empty land, filling it with the ghosts and dreams and memories of those that had lived, while their corpses withered, freeing their gods.

This was the second great sacrifice and the end of the second world. As the first world filled, the second world lay frozen, a dry world of cold and corpses and darkness.
