Age of Dreams Myth in Mezclandia | World Anvil

Age of Dreams

In the beginning of everything, the first god Chicue lived in darkness. She slid through reality as a great snake, twisting and flowing for eons, carving out from the darkness the Great Labyrinth.

She dreamed. And while she dreamed, she molted as a snake molts, slithering out of her skin and leaving it behind. Her discarded skins formed worlds and universes, their folds forming the mountains, caves, canyons, and valleys.

But she was alone in the infertile cosmos.

So she molted more, scraping her skins off faster and faster until she bled, scraping more until her bare muscles slithered through the universe.

And then more until her bones shone white and clean.

And then more until her spirit left her body left her body altogether. The universe that had been whole was now divided into two realms. Her spirit in one realm, dreaming and twisting endlessly through a place of spirit and memory. And the discarded remains of her body in another, forming the material reality of the universe. This was the first great sacrifice and the end of the first age. The first world lay empty, an endless place of spirit and memory.
