Hatchirith Frozenheart Character in Melyria | World Anvil

Hatchirith Frozenheart

Hatchirith Frozenheart was a master alchemist in Frozenheart family until he died on a disease he was trying to find a cure. He was well recognized and talented in his craft in his time but has since fallen in relative obscurity.

During his lifetime, Hatchirith was the caretaker of the House Frozenheart's villa outside of Zaetron Derraz. He would hide most of his literary work from the public until publishing to avoid thieves. Some of his unfinished work is still missing, hidden to the villa.

His ghost was recently released from his slumber and is desperate to find his unfinished recipe book to finish the cure. Sadly, the Crawlers have found the book and taken it away, and the old ghost isn't taking it. For now, he is pretty docile and simply haunting the Xar'zith Kyorl, Frozenheart palace. Better find the manuscript before he gets upset.

In the game, the ghost of Hatchirith has taken an interest towards Jarolin Frozenheart, 5-year-old son of the 2nd sister. Jarolin has aptly nicknamed him "Hati." This event was discovered by Izil'daerryn Frozenheart, who promised to help the ghost to get his lost manuscript.

Izil'Daerryn has since involved Rikica'asnet Spiderbane to these endeavours, and through him, also May'chalithra Palefury.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Image of Hatchirith has gotten stuck on his moment of death: his translucent ghost form shows the injuries that killed him, though how visible he is dependent on strength of his will on a given moment.

Body Features

Hatchirith appears as a ghostly figure of a relatively short drow males. His long white hair reaches back of his knees, loosely tied near the tips. While his ghostly form shows barely any color, his eyes occasionally brighten, showing the recognizable icy blue of the Frozenheart line.

While it is still visible from his form, he was once rather muscular, his form is withered and boney, and full of nasty boils and wounds caused by the illness that killed him. He wears a distinct piece of garment, revealing robe that shows his shoulder and has wide "collar" that gets wider on the top, hem reaching beyond his ankles like a ceremonial garb. The piece was possibly one of his full dress, possibly the one he was also buried in. Details are now hard to make out in ethereal form, but the gown was once well fitted, ornate and joined with gorgeous jewelry. On his neck, he holds an amulet featuring a sickle, a symbol of the order he once belonged in to.

Facial Features

Due the illness that took him, Hatchirith's cheeks are hollow, and eyes deep in their sockets. He has a long face and chiseled nose, telling he must have been quite handsome in his time.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Hatchirith was born to House Frozenheart in 13th of Jun, in year 2658. To the great disappointment of his family, he showed no skills in magic and thus would grow mostly in shadows. He was a studious, intelligent, and good looking boy, so his family did their best to find him a suitable usage.

Hatchirith took a liking of the family's great mansion outside of the city, especially it's vast gardens. His passion for alchemy was discovered almost by accident, as he stumbled upon books of practical usage of garden plants and ended up trying himself, making some perfumes for his mother for her birthday. This simple project would end up sidetracking rather drastically towards his later career.

Hatchirith would become a master alchemist and talented healer in his time, and during his elder years, he also became the steward of the Frozenheart manor. He would hide his most secret recipes around the mansion grounds and published several books. He had some students and family members, as well as family allies, who were sent to him to receive medical care. His name is still found as a source of several writings after him, and during his time, he enjoyed relative fame and admiration.

He died 23rd of Apr, in 3161, after getting infected by Putridpox, as he was trying to find a cure for it.

Accomplishments & Achievements

During his lifetime, Hatchirith was hailed as a master alchemist, even getting called into The Order of the Sickle. The Order was the most prestigious guild of herbalists and alchemists in the area at the period. He was particularly talented at finding alternative formulas and was eager to study from several sources. He studied from several different cultures like druids, dwarfs, and even goblins, making a large codex of ingredients and possible usages, parts of it still missing to this day.

While Hatchirith's body of work was vast, only pieces of it remain - some of it ended up to be mended of other people's work, other parts he had hidden too well, so no one has found them after his sudden passing. Most of his attention was in medicine, yet he did dabble on several fields of chemistry, making everything from perfumes to cold medicine and magic potions to alchemist fire during his career.

Add to his glory, Hatchirith received favor in his family, and would also give children to women his family saw suitable. According to Frozenheart family chronicles, he fathered at least 3 daughters.

Failures & Embarrassments

While his talents on potions made him valuable to his family, Hatchirith would suffer from lesser skills in magic. Unlike most of his family, he didn't show gifts on wizardry and barely knew any spells.

During his life, Hatchirith was fooled by competitors who managed to steal some of his formulas and publish them, taking the credit. Due to this, Hatchirith became very protective of his projects.

Sadly, Hatchirith would see his end while trying to invent a cure for a particularly deadly strand of Underdark Putridpox. His unfinished formula, competitive drive and regrets concerning his carelessness to get the pox himself caused Hatchirith's spirit to linger in ghostly form, instead of moving on.
