"Highpriest" Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful

Work in progress

Lord Tlutholin Darkburn

Some are born cursed, some are born unlucky, some have deserved torment from their past lives, some are unjustly punished and sometimes... you are just born to be someone like Tlutholin Darkburn, and the world just simply seems to despise your very being.

Born as the middle child to the Darkburn family, for no other than to matron Burmice Darkburn herself, one might expect great things to come for you. But no, not to Tlutholin. Presumed dead for the past 15 years, Tlutholin has come "back from the grave" as the deranged "Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful" as he titles himself, and things don't seem to be just spiralling deeper when you just thought he already found the lowest low.

Sadly for poor Tlutholin, this just seems to be the natural state of things. For now. Maybe forever.

In game, Elflings heard that someone had managed to dig up the graves in Moon Terrace cemetery and was bringing body parts of dead things to the Plaza of Gods. Party investigated the issue, and found that mad (yet quite pitiful) necromancer that called himself "Highpriest Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful, chosen of Kiaransalee". Party captured the mad necromancer, taking them to the Dragonborn Guard. With little digging, Dezzner Shadowblade confirmed to the party, that Ilztmyr'ezar was actually Tlutholin Darkburn, whom had previously presumed to be dead.

Party would later hear that Ilztmyr'ezar managed to escape while in transfer to Mori'tarna. They later found Ilztmyr'ezar from the forest and beat his undead vulture and undead wolves, before returning him back to custody.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful looks like a starving thing that was just lifted up from a swamp - and that is a very factual description of him, actually. He is sickly thin, dirty and his eyes are wild. His once fancy clothes are now muddy rags, and his hair is a matted mess.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Lord Tlutholin Darkburn was born to matron Burmice Darkburn in 11th of Augor, 3837 AoS. It is easy to presume that Tlutholin wasn't the child his mother would have preferred, as his name means literally "burning corpse", yet that might just be an oddity of the family, that has a long legacy with necromancy.

Tlutholin would grow to become quite an embarrassment for his his family. While he took very well on learning wizardry, he, from the very get-go, showed great dim-wittedness when it came to dealing with people, and generally oblivious to pretty much everything. He would wander from catastrophe to another and cause embarrassment and migraines were ever he went. Despite being otherwise complete dim-wit, Tlutholin has the almost legendary skill to avoid death, and he kept ending up in most imaginative near-death situations for decades. Some said it was bad luck - others say it was his sisters, desperately trying to get rid of him.

Eventually, a balcony broke under Tlutholin and he tumbled to his doom in the year 4032 - or so people thought for the longest time.

When Tlutholin's corpse was taken to family catacombs, it vanished soon after, his family pondering if he started wandering around the crypts as a zombie and got lost. In actuality, Tlutholin had finally figured out his family wouldn't end tormenting him before he was gone, and instead, he had survived the drop, cast a spell on himself that made him appear dead and sneaked out of the crypts.

Heartbroke, Tlutholin swore revenge and left Mori'tarna to hide on the surface, hoping to train his skills and become so powerful that one day he could show his family his true worth. However, after spending the next 15 years or so on the swamps of Lokinanda under the blinding shine of the sun, Tlutholin became increasingly unhinged and delusional. He believes that drow goddess of the undead, Kiaransalee, has chosen him as her disciple, and possibly fiancée, and he calls himself the leader of the cult Devoted of the Banshee, on which he is that only member.

During the early 4047, Tlutholin, now calling himself Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful, was performing experience with the undead in the swamps of Lokinanda when his undead servants were attacked by a group of Bogbusters. Ilztmyr'ezar managed to hide but observed the group, and became obsessed with one of the members, Neershalee Duskroot, and fell deeply in love. Now he is convinced that to get the lady's attention, he must raise an undead army, impress her or defeat her (he doesn't seem to be really sure about it himself) and possibly make her a vessel for his goddess, instead of like, talking to her.

So far, this approach hasn't taken him anywhere.

Mental Trauma

Being hated by his family has truly scarred Tlutholin for life, and he has very little understanding of how relationships work. It is quite possible that some of his delusions and actions are simply due to the shock and hurt he has endured, but do not have capabilities to express or deal with. Lack of empathy towards him has made Tlutholin think that all world is against him, and unable to really tell a friend from foe.

Intellectual Characteristics

Ilztmyr'ezar The Vengeful is oblivious, very delusional and the same time, awfully sure of himself. Until he isn't. Years of exile and his increasing paranoia has made Tlutholin extremely unpredictable, if not bipolar, and further divorced his understanding of reality. He is very intelligent on matters of books, but absolutely terrible with people.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

Maybe the most heartbreaking thing about Tlutholin is his great potential, which has totally gone ignored and to waste. Not only he is a very talented wizard, but he has also somewhat secret talent in writing. Tlutholin keeps a diary to himself which is filled with his wild and bizarre fantasies, including stories of his grandiose plans and his oddly specific, quite weird and gory and bizarre romantic/sexual fantasies about Neershalee Duskroot and sometimes even Kiaransalee herself.

These pieces are shockingly well written even with the questionable material in them, proving that poor Tlutholin could actually have a promising career as a horror smut-writer.

Social

Contacts & Relations

At this point in his miserable life, Tlutholin's only companion is his familiar, zombie vulture he calls Vlonvyll. Everyone else seems to have entirely abandoned him.

Family Ties

Religious Views

Kiaransalee is the center of Tlutholin's life, and motivation to everything he does at the moment. He seems to be obsessed with the thought that the goddess of undeath has chosen him as her mouthpiece. So far, however, he hasn't managed to produce any proof of that.

Aw, poor Tlutholin. But also, yikes. I wonder if he's beyond help at this point, because he's really been dealt a bad hand.
