Baurus Noventi

Baurus Alvin Noventi (a.k.a. The Bear)

Baurus "Bear" Noventi is a former street tough from Silkenvault. Today, he is a personal adviser and bodyguard to Angela Foxglove of the Ghostleaf Foundation.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Baurus is muscular and barrel-chested, though he has developed a bit of a paunch as he has grown older.

Physical quirks

Over the course of his five year residence in Petalcap Vale, Baurus had begun to manifest signs of Verdialization. With Angela Foxglove's help, Baurus has intentionally accelerated this process, becoming physiologically Verdial. He retains most of his original eye, hair, and skin color, though he does now manifest the typical dark striations of a Verdial who spends some time in the sunlight.

Mental characteristics

Education

Though he was provided with the best Voxelian primary education that money could buy, Baurus' only extracurricular activities were petty theft, vandalism, and brawling with other teens. After narrowly graduating high school, Baurus was faced with the choice between going to jail for several charges of destruction of property or joining the Grand Army of Voxelia to learn discipline. He chose the latter option and was trained as an infantry man, a role in which he became decorated for his bravery and dedication.

Employment

After his term of service in the Grand Army of Voxelia was up, Baurus worked for various private security firms that were actually fronts for the Raccoon Circle. It was during this time that he came to the attention a recruiter from the newly-founded Ghostleaf Foundation, who retained his services as personal security for the company's owner, Angela Foxglove. Angela, for her part, also relies on Baurus as a personal gadfly, as his upbringing is so different from hers that he helps her maintain perspective in a chaotic world.

Failures & Embarrassments

A child of privileged upbringings, Baurus never appreciated the gifts he had been given during his youth, turning to petty crimes and hooliganism as a form of rebellion against his 'stuffy,' noble parents. Later, as Baurus reassessed his life after his service in the Grand Army of Voxelia, the man came to feel intense regret over his former ingratitude and resolved to never repeat this mistake again.

Morality & Philosophy

Baurus believes that that which is given freely has no value. To that end, in order to 'earn' the gifts of everyday life, he strives to embody the virtues of diligence, tenacity, and adherence to duty in all spheres of life. The greatest joy Baurus can experience is that of a hard-won victory, whether in business, artistic, or romantic pursuits.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

What Baurus lacks in book learning he more than makes up for in interpersonal savvy. Baurus is brave and knows when to show it, but he also has a gentle and understanding streak born of life experience; it is this aspect of his personality that he shows to Angela, whom he treats like his own daughter, the most. Baurus can easily sense when someone is acting out of rebellion, ignorance, or inexperience, and typically tries to take a fatherly tone towards these individuals in an attempt to help them avoid the same mistakes he made in his youth. Above all, Baurus is loyal, trustworthy, and tenacious.

Vices & Personality flaws

Baurus is disgusted by any perceived sign of ingratitude in others, as this behavior reminds him of his own history and thereby makes him uncomfortable. A large, imposing extrovert by nature, Baurus must work hard to prevent his intimidating nature from outshining his other traits in interactions with others. The man generally lacks much in the way of subtlety, though he does try.
