Personal history
Rajni is born the eldest child of Theodore III and Elsbeth. At an early age, her mother died in childbirth, and Rajni was raised by a governess. Sheltered and admired from afar, she grew up feeling restricted and longing for adventure. At the age of seventeen, royals began to court her. Though she entertained a brief understanding with the Archduke of Greendale, he soon left to marry a lady from Sorinath. Rajni turned down five proposals and seems to have little interest in love.
Sexuality
Rajni long displayed homosexual tendencies, though that was discouraged and eventually covered up. She convinced herself that she would marry eventually, yet also put off the date. When she met the young Mage Hunter apprentice, Marcella Jager, she felt an attraction. Eventually, this grew into romantic affections that she tried to stifle. Only after Marcella's betrayal of her did Rajni fully admit the extent of her love for the other girl. Shortly after, she met an Ajjaren ambassador and her feelings were reciprocated. However, her relationship was used to blackmail her in the later months of the war.
Education
Rajni was tutored in language, rhetoric, literature, geography, music, and dance, and even briefly attended the Royal College of History, but was withdrawn by her father after he caught wind of a scandal there.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Rajni, though academically accomplished, rarely had an opportunity to use her intelligence. Mainly, she was praised in the kingdom for her beauty and maidenly charm. After becoming Queen, she reorganized her cabinet, allowing for a more democratic process to take place. Perhaps her most incredible success was ending the War of Silver. Not only did she escape imprisonment by factions of her own government and crossed the war zone in secret to find Marcella, she also negotiated a deal with the Majan in which she would regain her throne and end the war. During her rule after this event, relations with the Majan became better than they had in a millenia, the Mage Hunters were disbanded, and the practice of magecraft inside Laklen was legalized. Laklen benefited from this alliance, creating more social stability between classes as well as more peaceful trade. Her more personal successes came when she allowed herself to forgive Marcella, and as such, let go of her feelings for the other woman. They became partners occasionally, though they did not return to the same level of intimacy. Rajni never married, and her romantic life is a topic of continued speculation.
Failures & Embarrassments
Rajni's early reign is marked by many failures and mistakes, not least of which her decision to place Bahltair Jager in a position of power beside her. Under his influence, she continued the war on the Majan for almost four years. The extended conflict drained money and resources from the lower classes and gave rise to greater discontent among her people. Both she and the war became incredibly unpopular, but before she could fix her mistake, she was removed from power by Jager and several of his political supporters. They aimed to kill her and place her youngest sister in power under a regency.
Mental Trauma
Rajni was left angry and unstable by Marcella's betrayal. After so many years of suppressed anger, it became unbearable and she was so bent on killing Marcella that she neglected to rule wisely.

Rajni, though in some ways unworldly, is suprisingly socially intelligent. She can understand the finer points of polite discource and deduce concealed emotions.

Originally, Rajni's attraction to Marcella made her reach out and become friends. After Marcella's betrayal, Rajni is consumed by the desire to find her and end her life.

Rajni, being educated by royal tutors, has excellent tact and diplomacy and is known to be exceptionally personable. Able to read people's expressions and motivations, she can navigate the difficult political climate around her. However, Rajni is not suited for fighting or physical prowess.

Reign
Rajni's reign lasted from late 1089 to 1100, when she died. She was briefly removed from power in 1091, but reclaimed her throne during the Battle of Laverun. During her early reign, she was advised by Bahltair Jager, who was her Supreme Commander. After deciding that the war was taking too great a toll on her people, she resolved to open negotiations, but was betrayed by Jager and imprisoned. He threatened her to abdicate or allow a regency, but she resisted, knowing that with her youth and sex, her regent would eventually supplant her.
Making a deal with the Majan, Rajni returned to power with their help and declared peace. In the years that followed, Rajni demilitarized Druidsfort in 1094, established safe and official methods of communication across the border in 1093, disbanded the Mage Hunters in 1091, signed the first trade agreement with the Gae-Hirach in 1093, followed by many more significant diplomatic actions, and finally legalized the worship of Majan deities in her kingdom by 1098. In spring of 1098 Rajni traveled as part of a delegation across the border, where she met with a group of Majan chieftains in Da'jan, becoming the first Lakloran ruler to set foot peacefully on Majan soil in over one thousand years.
In 1099, she realized her health was failing, but she continued her work, legalizing magical potions, returning magical artifacts to their home countries, and overseeing the construction of a temple where witches could gather for worship in the capital.
With a reign of eleven years, Rajni's rule was cut short by her untimely death. Marcella Jager attended her funeral, warding her tomb. As Rajni was laid to rest, Marcella placed the Silver Dagger in her hands and a sprig of lavender on her chest. Rajni's sister Wren succeeded her, and though the next decade would be marked by a series of small conflicts, she ensured that Rajni's efforts did not fail.
Contacts & Relations
Rajni formed a close bond with Marcella, a young Mage Hunter's apprentice, and fell in love with her. However, she did not dare confess her love and was betrayed by Marcella. In her early rule, she became close to Marcella's father, Bahltair Jager, who advised her and eventually betrayed her as well. Rajni made peace with Marcella in order to regain her throne, but the two were never as close as before. Rajni was rumored to have had at least one female lover, and she never married, leaving the throne to her sister.
Family Ties
Rajni was the eldest daughter of King Theodore VI and Lady Elsbeth. Rajni had a younger brother, Prince Theodore, and a younger sister, Princess Wren. Her brother had no children, and neither did Rajni, but her sister Wren married a knight and bore three sons.
Relationships
History
Rajni and Marcella met at a dinner the king hosted for Marcella and her father. Rajni was fascinated by Marcella's honesty and brashness. On the same night, Marcella saved her life from an assassination attempt. Rajni started to feel a growing attraction towards the other girl, but did not reveal it. Marcella betrayed Rajni by killing her father, and after they became bitter enemies.
