Peasant refugees from Babkino
This was initially a group of about 20 people who were expelled from their home village by marauding wolf shapechangers who killed the remaining population, and burnt the village to the ground. They then released 20 people with some livestock and possessions as a way of terrifying the surrounding population.
The Serpent Slayers met these peasants at night in the woods, a short ways away from their village. After hearing their story, they investigated the village, and found it destroyed. But the wolves were already gone. Rather than pursue them, they decided to lead the peasants back to Ladeisk, though this slowed them down considerably. Later the same day, Alden changed into hybrid form, which frightened about a quarter of the refugees out of their wits, and they fled into a blighted area of the woods, and were never heard from again. The remaining 15 peasants were successfully delivered to the capital.
