Bone Fly
The bone fly. Is a parasite that creates large hives from the bone structures of creatures they find. They do this by releasing a substance from their mouth that causes the small area of bone to become gelatinous temporarily. They then use their shovel like front legs. To shape the bone to make holes for their larvae and tunnels for them to travel through. Surprisingly this processes is completely painless and the host wont feel anything for the first few days.
Its only after the Bone fly has laid its eggs inside of the host bone. The many larvae will start to eat the marrow and tunnel through the bone. The process of the bone breaking down in itself is painless but when the bones are shaped and hits nerves they aren't supposed to is incredibly painful. After the larvae has matured. The now large hive will start to reconstruct the entire bone structure. But they will leave the limbs alone. So the host still is able to move around. The bone flies also does what they can to prevent the host from dying since they can only live in a living host. If something attacks the host a swarm of warriors will fly out stinging and biting the attacker. If the host is starving they will Inject nutrients directly into the hosts stomach. How they produce this is unknown. When the host dies the hive disbands all the females are impregnated. and flies their different ways looking for new hosts
Basic Information
Anatomy
Theyre a bit smaller than the average housefly but with a slimmer body and longer legs. They on average have 8 legs. The end of the 2 front legs have a foot that looks a lot like a shovel. The 2 backlegs have a large hook on each end. The other legs can be set close to the body so they wont get in the way. Their abdomen is long and slim. They have eyes like on an averge fly. They have a very wide mouth in comparison to their head. And it looks quite horrifying when this mouth is opened
Genetics and Reproduction
The impregnated queen. Will look for a sleeping creature and crawl into his nose mouth or ear. However when desperate they have been seen to viciously attempt to crawl into the nose mouth or ear of a host. The Eggs and larvae can only survive in the bone of a living host. After the eggs are laid the queen will create a small chamber inside of a bone of the host. And die afterwords. The larvae when hatch will eat the marrow and tunnel through the bone. When a larvae finds the chamber of the previous queen it will dig in and attempt to eat the decayed corpse of the former queen. After er very short amount of time the larvae will turn into an adult queen. She will then hibernate in the chamber until the other larvae become adults
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They don't have a very good sight and its unknown how they always exactly know where the ears nose or mouth are on different creatures. They can produce a buzzing sound that works a bit like echolocation. They also communicate through pheromones. They can create a substance that makes bone go gelatinous temporarily. making them able to shape the bone easily
