Shard of Aether

The enforcer looked down upon her gauntlets. for a second before returning her focus to the running man around 100 feet in front of her. As she cleansed her fists inside the gauntlets, the barely visible crystals inside the gauntlets started to light up and crackle with energy, the same was true for the devices on her legs. When she released. her speed was tripled, and her gauntlets crackled with the same energy. She very quickly caught up to the man. With her gauntlet filled with electric energy, she touched the man shoulder, and he immediately fell, as the energy was released into his body.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The crystal and rock, can be charged with magic, and is able to absorb magic in the area. It has also been used to trap elementals inside them this keeps the rock or crystal charged, this never happens naturally. This effect has sometimes been used on fiends or celestial but this rarely works.
It is believed that each crystal is connected to different types of magic, such as different schools, planes of existence, etc
One might have a connection to the fiendish planes, and is charged with fiendish energies. While another might be charged with the element of fire.
While charged with magic, it can be used as a power source  for technology or used for magical items.

Geology & Geography

They're usually found underground, around the world, but is most common on obedena. They will usually only apear if strong magic is nearby, such a portal to an elemental plane, near a dragons lair, or near a magical Ley line which is where they're most likely to be found. They can be found above ground if the magics are strong enough, however these locations are usually very dangerous.
They can also be found on most of the different planes of existence those found there, can store a lot more energy and is much much more powerful.

It is unknown and not completely understood how and when they form. just that when powerful magic is present they sometimes apear.

Life & Expiration

It highly depends on the size, and purity. and how its charged. The smaller and less pure ones, can keep magic in them for about a weak, if used for a power source for something weak and simple, or be used in the crafting of common magical items. If a weak elemental is trapped inside it can be used until destroyed, but only for weak inventions or technologies. They can also be used as components in place of any other component that cost 100 gold or less These can usually fit in your hand
A larger and more pure one, would be able to be used as a power source for about 2-3 Months depending on the purity. It can be used for magical items from uncommon to rare, Potentially very rare, however this is rare. If an elemental is trapped inside it, they can power the lightning rails and fireships. they're usually the size of a fist
The larger or purer ones, are very very rare, and its not completly know what their limits are but they have been used to create powerfull items of legendary status, its i theorized, if large and pure enough they can be used to power a weapon to devastate entire continents.

Odor

It depends on if its charged, and what kind of magic its charged with. The ones charged with ligthning or electrecity have been reported to smell like ozone, while other charged with fire, has been reported to smell like coal.

Taste

Like rock or dirt, then a whole lot of pain.

Color

From normal rock, to almost the entire spectrum

Boiling / Condensation Point

Havent been reported to boil. and only condense if alredy melted.

Melting / Freezing Point

Those not charged with fire magic, or connetced to the elemental plane of fire. Have melted at around 1800 degrees, those that are charged with fire, or from the elemental plane of fire, havent been repord to melt, if melted all the magic is released

Density

It highly depends, theyre usally a litle denser than rock, but some have been found to be as dense of dimond
