Vinny does not pass as male well. He does his best with binder and clothing choices, but he is painfully aware that he has wider hips, a larger chest, and a narrower waist than is typical for a man his height. His facial features are delicate and tend toward "pretty" and feminine.

Silja was the first person to recognize that Vinny identified as other than feminine. She asked him early in life what name he preferred and never failed to use "Vinny" rather than any of the more feminine nicknames Briana preferred. Vinny adored her and took her death very hard, regretting into adulthood that he never had the opportunity to truly come out to her.
