General Physical Condition
In her teens, Maddie is short, round, un-athletic, and extremely uninterested in fashion. She reached her peak height (5’3”) in middle school. As a teenager, she weighed around 140 pounds. She carries her fat evenly across her body and in her teens, she had no “feminine” shape, being essentially rectangular. She traded her wire-rim glasses for contact lenses in her senior year of high school. Her clothing choices during this time are usually oversized t-shirts with Hawaiian or flannel shirts and baggy jeans. She wears a silver puzzle ring on the ring finger of her right hand and a gold necklace with a triple-ring pendant, both gifts from her mother. When Charlie leaves, he leaves his leather jacket with her and she wears it constantly. Her only scar is a small half-moon shaped scar on her right hand between thumb and forefinger from breaking a glass while washing dishes.
When John and Dex identified Maddie as a catalyst for supernatural activity, they sought out the assistance of another known catalyst to help train her. Much of this training involved meditation and yoga practice, which Maddie took to fairly quickly. She continues to do yoga regularly as exercise and the meditation aspects help center her. When under extreme stress, Maddie will “black out,” an aspect of her training designed to quickly shut down her catalystic emanations. She is unconscious and unresponsive, but looks conscious and can maintain a standing or seated position while in this state, though she prefers to black out in child’s pose or all fours. She explored a goth/glitter period during this time, wearing a lot of Hot Topic clothing and frequently dyeing her hair a variety of colors, both natural and not. She regularly wears a silver puzzle ring on the middle finger of her right hand and a silver link bracelet on the same wrist. She still has a jacket of Charlie’s which she wears often. She acquires a scar above her left eye in 1999 from a rogue beach umbrella (you can't make this shit up).
After moving to South Dakota and becoming involved in the hunter lifestyle, she became more focused on her physical fitness. She started rock-climbing and trail-running, in addition to joining a track club at Augie U. She ran in several organized distance races and focused on middle distances: 10k to half-marathon. This focus on fitness helped her drop excess fat and tone her overall shape. During this period, she was usually around 120 pounds. During exercise, she wears performance clothing with reflective bands. Casually, she sticks to cargo pants and graphic t-shirts with geeky or fandom themes. When hunting, she wears Charlie’s leather jacket or one of Dex’s flak jackets. She wears her hair very short during this period in a no-nonsense bob. Occasionally she will dye it, but usually only natural colors. At this point, she no longer wears any jewelry. Around 2002, she stopped wearing contacts due to issues with dry-eye and allergies. Scars become more common.
Moving into her thirties, the shift in hormones and maturity resulted in a more feminine body shape. She went up about half a cup size and her hips developed. She continued to trail run, routinely going for a 5k run every morning when at home. She also joined a local dojo in 2008 practicing kendo. When she moves to central Virginia, she picks up with a similar school at ACAC, reaching 2nd dan black belt before moving to back to South Dakota. She still does yoga routinely and maintains her weight around 130 lbs. Her exercise clothing remains performance clothes and she wears jeans and t-shirts casually. Cargo pants and long-sleeved thermal shirts are usually her go-to for hunting. She has several jackets she rotates through during this period: Charlie’s leather jacket, an old bomber jacket of Dex’s, and a felted wool peacoat with feminine lines that she wears in professional situations. She's let her hair grow out a bit and often wears it in a high ponytail or a bun. She dyed it bright pink in September of 2013 and liked it so well that she maintained it until her death.

When Maddie graduated from high school and Dex diagnosed her condition as a catalyst, he and Caroline forged documents offering her an internship under "Doctor Dexter Lockard" in North Dakota. He took her on as a loremaster apprentice and they became incredibly close.
History
Maddie and Thalia met during their graduate work in Illinois. They had a bumpy dating life, on and off for almost eight years before Maddie called Thalia and needed her support and Thalia arrived without so much as a question. They married in 2021.

History
Maddie is in a poly relationship with Charlie, Sashi, and Thalia, making her an unofficial “sister-in-law.” Like Charlie, Maddie was reluctant to believe that Hestia wasn’t something dangerous that had killed Ellie to take her place. After Jane’s death, this becomes less the case: one cuckoo in the nest is a tragedy. Two is unheard of. Once she accepts Hestia, Maddie is delighted to have a running partner.

History
Maddie first got a call about Greta Nelson from her friend, Ellie. Ellie suspected that Greta was a catalyst, since she had recently demonstrated dramatic paranormal abilities, so Ellie agreed to meet with Greta and test her for the specific wavelength of energy which mean the teenager was a catalyst, like Maddie. When she tested positive, Maddie agreed to train Greta to control her abilities and teach her about the supernatural world.
