Mad Len
Some particular crossroads demons have personal summons. This is usually due to a deal struck between the demon and Mephisto or some other higher demonic lord. [Dex] One example of this is Maddie Brewer, known to the demonic world as “Marguerite” or “Mad Len.” As a mortal, she struck a deal with Mephisto to be a crossroads demon in his service in exchange for a powerful artifact to protect her family. Her personal summons is available to anyone who can obtain a personal memento from Charlie Lockard or Thalia Faust, Mad Len’s lovers in life. Hers is a dangerous summons, as the summoner must replace the bone of the cat with a songbird’s bone or risk immediate death upon summoning the demon.
Dodging a pact may be as simple as finding another mortal willing to take on the contract. In some cases and depending on the importance the demon places on the soul of the original summoner, two or three mortals may be required in order to rewrite the contract. According to legend, Mad Len attempted to buy her way out of her contract, but Mephisto demanded the souls of 100 willing hunter-mages in return for rewriting her contract. Maddie accepted her fate.
