Battle of Soksu

Decisive victory shrouded in superstition.

"And when the battle was all but won, she returned. The Burm forces had captured the island of Soksu but it turns out that many of the soldiers of Zinato had scattered into the forests when their leader was slain. Within a day, she rallied what remained of her forces and returned to the island."

Fighting for Trade

The Time of Darkness was a difficult time for everyone. The rivers of Zinato were useful for quickly transporting goods and the surrounding area would have been useful for hard resources and gathering some foodstuffs. Some of the people that would later form the nation of Burim attempted to take the forested territory of Zinato. They were able to advance into the woods but encountered heavy resistance when trying to cross the river.   To secure passage across the large river, the aggressor sought to capture the island of Soksu so that they may build a small bridge on one side and a small bridge on the other. They could construct these much more quickly than the larger bridge required to cross the entire river at much less risk.

People of Zinato

The people on the side of the river that was captured by the attackers would become the soldiers that drive them out. Under the direction of the First River Queen, they would train to be a force specialized in hit-and-run tactics and sabotage. Unable to directly engage the better trained force, they managed a number of minor victories. However, when the island of Soksu was to be attacked, they ended up in a direct conflict anyways. The veteran force overwhelmed them and they suffered many casualties before the survivors fled into the woods.

The River Queen

During the battle for the island, the leader of the defenders - the First River Queen - was slain and her body dumped in the river. What remained of her forces scattered and the battle was won. Or so it seemed. Only hours later a particularly nasty storm had reached over the region and she returned with her remaining forces. Reports say that she fought with an oversized paddle - Ugdenfal - a gift from Ceslovas, who brings the dead into their next life. It allowed her to survive many blows that should have killed any person and won her the battle and the war.
