Syrup (Sairupi)

This is a Foundation city.   Syrup is the capital of Bridgelum and home to halflings of all ethnicities, although Wood and River Halflings are more common here in comparison to Hill Halflings.

Demographics

Through out its history, almost all inhabitants of Syrup are River Halflings and Wood Halflings. Only a few Hill Halflings live there, but that includes the royal family. Many dwarves can also be found strolling about Syrup for its mining trade value. A few humans and elves also live there.

Government

The city is ruled directly by the King/Queen of Bridgelum. He has some counselours that even take on day-to-day duties, but the king always has the final say.

Defences

Bridgelum's Defenders are the main military organization that protects the city but other than that, Syrup has almost no other form defence.

Industry & Trade

Syrup is one of the biggest exporter of iron and crystal gems of all The Eight Countries. Furthermore, it also supplies baked and dairy goods, wood and clothes to almost all of Bridgelum and Rockvar .

Guilds and Factions

History

  • Syrup was founded two years after the The Halfling Uprising ended and the realm of Bridgelum was formed. It grew really fast in its first year of existence but the growth rate decreased a lot after arround 20 years (lazy halflings).
  • In the year of 349 BBE many of Syrup's inhabitants started to mysteryously disappearing while some creatures that looked a lot like Canicis were roaming the town at night. But some bold and intelligent adventurers solved the mystery in no time. Are you one of those adventurers or, perhaps, will you be one of them?
  • Almost five hundred years after its creation, in the year 93 ABE, Amled, the Firstborn, and his forces striked Syrup, destroying the city in the process, killing thousands. That also triggered the start of Amled's War Against the Living.
  • The city was utterly destroyed and its inhabitants were either killed or fled the city (with the exception of the people in the Hunter's District, who sought refuge on the Durantia's Sacred Grove.
  • Nonetheless, many that fled went to the shores of River Untrabana-Gor and founded the new capital of Bridgelum: the town of Spés
  • However, after the War of Doom ended the deserted city began to firstly receive homeless people and other vagabonds. But it did not take too much time for dangerous and cunning criminals to go there and take over the ruins of the once peaceful capital.
  • The most powerful and influential one was the elf known as the Hash-Slinger's Slasher. His home base is in Byen Engler, but he is currently (year 125 ABE) using Syrup as a remote secure place to conduct certain things (like producing drugs and having secret meetings)

Points of interest

The King's Mine is one of the most important places of Syrup, for it is there that all the iron and crystals are obtained. Saggins Manor, the biggest building in the city, houses the royal family and their guests. The Iliodim Monastery and the Cathedral of the Lightbringer also play an important role in the city.

Tourism

Even though tourism is not a major trade in Syrup, the city is a good place for tourists that are looking for a good place to rest for some time and visit the region's famouses waterfalls and rivers.

Architecture

The Wood Halflings usually make their homes in treehouses, but they can also be found living in burrows in the forest grounds. The rest of Syrup's inhabitants live in normal brick houses, with the exception for the royal family (that lives in the glamorous The Saggins Manor) and the Speared Monks that make their homes on the Iliodim Monastery.

Geography

Syrup is built in the valley that is created by the Grey Mountain (the city spreads itself here as well) and the Southern Mountains. The Long Tails River passes through the vale and is largely used by the settlement.

Natural Resources

Large supply of Iron and Crystal on the King's Mine and the Eastern Woods holds plenty of wood and game (but those commodities are harvested in a sustainable way).
