Marellia
The Empire of Marellia is a very old and very widespread nation who tends to have their fingers in a little bit of everything.
Structure
Marellia is divided is an oligarchy ruled by bloodlines.
At the top of the pillar are the Four Great Houses who hold almost all of the power in Marellia. From these are a great many Lesser Houses who vie for the attention of the Great Houses attempting to enrich their own status by playing up to the larger house. Below them are those who belong to no house, often acting as serfs to the lesser houses. Finally within Marellia is the slave caste, mostly made up of Kobolds but can include other species as well.
Public Agenda
Marellia pursues the interests of herself and her people. Establishing colonies across the continent and creating profitable trade with the mainland countries.
Assets
Along with all of the Island of Marellia the Empire has numerous colonies, mostly on islands neighboring the mainland but occasionally in certain coastal regions as well. Most of their wealth is established through complicated trade routes using their colonies to secure rare goods for transport and trade in other parts of the world.
Marellia is known for its incredibly powerful navy.
History
In the oldest Kobold texts the small lizardfolk refer to the "Raiders of the Sea". Human seafarers w ho attacked various kobold settlements in the early days of civilization. It is presumed that the Marellian people had seafaring before they even had written word and had begun to explore the world well before any other group or people. This is backed up by the names of many of the major landmasses in Talan and even Talan itself whose name stems from the Marellian word "Tae Lyn" meaning "Great Land".

Legislative Body
The legistlative body of Marellia is based upon the Senate. A delegation of the Four Houses and their supporting Lesser Houses. These create the new laws, declare war and more for the Empire. Usually one of the Four Houses (or an Alliance of two) takes power from the rest through having a majority between itself and its lesser houses. The leader of this family is named the High Lord and acts as an officiator for the Senate, and something of a Head of State for Marellia.
