Kobold Species in Lementia (Old) | World Anvil

Kobold

The Kobolds of Talan are a numerous and adaptable species.   Originating deep inside the various mountain ranges on Talan they built massive city-states where they mine and craft and generally work for the betterment of their people.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kobolds are small lizardlike humanoids with massive variation in appearance. They always have some draconic features though. Usually in the form of a tail and horns. The rest of their features vary wildly from having full on draconic faces to looking more like small humans.

Genetics and Reproduction

Kobolds generally lay clutches of eggs in groups of 2-6. Most of these will not hatch and a family will be lucky for a couple of the eggs to fully develop.

Ecology and Habitats

Kobolds thrive in mountainous terrain although they can adapt to any environment and often find themselves in different locations.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Kobolds can be either humanoid lizards, small human-ish creatures with lizard-like features (tail, horns) or anything in between those two extremes. Their race has one of the highest levels of dimorphism and their children seem to be more of a lottery of traits than any kind of trackable genetics.

Naming Traditions

Typical kobold names include 3 main parts. First their given name which is usually between 2-4 letters long, then their clutch name which is a moniker 1-2 letters long and attached to the given name with an apostrophe. Finally they take their clans name as a sort of surname.   Examples:   Fir'im Treebrow Bel'iri Bellhorn Thal'o Icetail

Major Organizations

When Kobolds organize on their own they do so in massive underground fortresses that act as their own independent city-states despite often existing within the borders of another nation. Often they are considered more of a boon to the parent nation as the trade they bring boosts wealth so only rarely does this bring up major strife between the two nations.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Kobolds get along famously with most other races. The one exception is the Kobolds of Marellia who are treated as slaves by the humans of those lands.
