Carrowine Forest

  • The leaves of the canopy are colorful year-round. The light that filters through to the forest floor is vibrant and varied like stained glass. It's beautiful and otherworldly.
  • It is home to a myriad of creatures and beings. Everything from vampires to fairies have made this place their home. However, their homes were destroyed, and the forest is shrinking due to the logging industry, leaving them with less and less room to live. There's a great deal of rainbow cedar here, and it's highly sought after by Garthspire as an export.
  • The vampires, thralls, and werewolves that fled Thrall's Nest came here.
  • Most vampires stay on the southern side of the forest inside Noctre because Noctre is more tolerant of their kind there.
  • Because there is little food here, vampires go on raids in nearby villages to find food. Only a few drink from the animals of the forest. It's not enough for them to live on long-term.
  • The hunters now living in Thrall's Nest frequent the forest to hunt anything and everything there, whether they've harmed sapient beings or not. They kill indiscriminately.

Demographics

Races and Notable Creatures:

  • Werefolk of all races and types

Government

It is in both Garthspire and Noctre, so it's technically ruled by those two nations; however, they have little sway in the forest, and it may as well be its own nation. There is no local governing body. Everyone just sort of does their own thing. The vampires and werefolk likely have the most power, though.

Districts

There are the north and south regions, but there's little difference between the two ecologically or socially.

Points of interest

  • Ferineth's Nook - a small hollow with a portal inside that takes you from one end of the forest to the other. Few humanoids can access it.
  • Killigan Keep - a small keep where the vampires and some werewolves live. It's not the perfect home, but they've managed to repair the abandoned keep and make it their own.

Geography

The Balferen River runs through the middle, and there are several springs from aquifers that dot the landscape. There is only one large humanoid settlement, and it's floating above the forest and does little to hamper the natural wonders of the forest. There are, however, smaller settlements for the fey that live in the forest, although those are in the trees to protect them from predators that roam the forest floor.

Natural Resources

Rainbow cedar is highly sought after by Garthspire. Noctre tends to leave the forest alone, believing it to be cursed and wanting little to do with it—it's not worth the risk. The wood gets its name from having an iridescent grain inside, with its rings marking new lines of color. Its bark is usually a deep red color, making it easy to recognize from a distance.
