Korahaman (Core-uh-huh-mon)

A God, or the Beast that Carried One?

Korahaman was a spiritual being that the Kaban owed their allegiance to before its death by the Saltkrigere. Whether it was sapient or not is unknown, even by the Kaban, though the stories of its wisdom are still passed down by the Kaban today. For one month of the year, the kaban would go into spiritual torpor in which they would directly commune with Korahaman, where they believed it would take their memories of hardship and take them away.   In connecting their mind and souls, Korahaman would give them a central, singular memory of how events had transpired from the last communion, as well as visions and wisdom of actions they must take in the next year to survive. With the slow, untraditional aspects of the Kaban compared to other sapient creatures, this central wisdom was needed to avoid internal questions, conflict, and to give the preparation needed to survive. The recoding of their memories truly gave a different meaning to the term "new year."   Some kaban believe that Korahaman knew its death was near and believed that the separation between itself and the kaban would be necessary for their advancement as a species. Others have come to think his insights into the future were never true to begin with.   Though the kaban of today know Korahaman to be dead, it is custom for their tribes to communally own small tortoises known as Aza Kora believed to have come from Korahaman.   Its shell was preserved though the rest of the bones were done away with. The shell remains at Shellbay today, retired into the castle dungeons for unknown purposes. It was likely put there to be forgotten.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Korahaman, for unknown reasons, guided and somewhat controlled the Kaban before being killed. It made strides in assisting with their suvival. What Korahaman gained from this is unknown.

Quai Carrier

Korahaman's distinctive glow is not unique in nature. It is distinctive of many organisms (usually plants) which use the Quai to nourish themselves. The glow within animals would later be seen in the Quai Trodders, which further display the validity of the theory that Korahaman carried the Quai himself. Due to his size, it is likely that Quai infested plants would have grown upon his shell during a long hibernation, or that he would have been fed Quai-infused organisms during ancient, long lost sacrifices or other rituals lost to history. This would also explain his ability to connect the Kaban and how the Kaban were able to connect to the Quai upon finding it after their dislocation (though it is possible being reptilian or amphibious in nature makes the connection easier).   This furthers the question: was Korahaman the god, or was it simply a platform for the Quai to interact with the world in various places? Truly, the humans noticed no signs of intelligence from Korahaman and Kaban sources are limited from their lack of written language at the time.

Gigantotherm

Korahaman, though cold blooded like other reptilian species, is so large that heat would be trapped in its body without being able to dissipate. While the warmth may have been good for the Quai (which usually survives in temps warmer than Shellbay), it was an easy way for Korahaman to overheat and potentially die. To avoid this fate, he would exercise strategies similar to the panting of dogs. Swalling large portions of water and holding it between the mouth and lungs, the heat conducts into the water. In one large exhale, he would release all of the air from his lungs, releasing the warmth as superheated steam capable of burning through a man's skin. Once this is done, Korahaman must rest to recover from the rapid drop in body temperature.
