The Draugar Report

General Summary

Sukasi 34   The group camps for the night. Shortly after sunset they notice that the bones they took from the corpse are missing, except for the skull, which they still have. After about two hours a headless figure appears in the firelight. Clayton sprints the 200 metres to the river with the head and lobs it into the water. The draugr turns and runs after the head.   The rest of the night is uneventful. The heroes discuss future plans for how to destroy the draugr. Plans including getting JacquesForthill to perform the ritual to put the draugr to rest.   Sukasi 35   Come morning they head off to the ruins. Just as they're leaving leaving they hear, "Chuk! Vra! Troa!... Chuk! Vra! Troa!.." repeatedly approaching them quickly. Felix and Saiya immediately hide, leaving Clayton, Barclay, Emil, and Lilleke on the road. Shortly a group of 12 Gnar appear on the remains of the road marching briskly. They halt. One of them is called forward. He then approaches Barclay who waves. They wave back. They converse about what each is doing, and as the Gnar want to go and chase a couple of ogres away, the group joins them, falling in behind the Gnar column.   Felix has ran ahead to the ogres. He plays a tune so that the ogres know he's coming. The clever one comes out. Felix explains that they found a place and that there are some gnar on their way here. The ogres immediately begin to prepare for a siege. Felix is taken aback, but starts to play music to help inspire them (he is bard, after all).   After about 30 minutes the gnar arrive, They fan out and one of them shouts something at the ogres. Felix asks what, and the ogre tells him that the gnar told them to leave or else. One of the ogres throws a boulder, landing just short of the gnar. So, the gnar and the ogres face off and yell at each other a lot to leave, neither group actually attacking the other. Felix sees one of the ogres prepare a sling, putting a large rock into it. The ogre hits one of the gnar, basically obliterating the gnar's torso. he then hits another in the head, killing him instantly. The gnar start to move together, when another is hit, shattering his leg. The gnar flee! Barclay goes to help the fallen gnar.   Another one is hit out of sight of the group and Clayton goes to help him. The ogre tries to shoot another sling, but catches the sling on something sticking out of the ruined castle wall, causing him to lose his balance. He falls off the wall, one story down to the inside of the castle, breaking his wrist.   Barclay ends up taking the two injured gnar in her wagon and heading out without the other heroes. Felix decides to gloat that his side won the battle and sits on the castle wall to play his music. Clayton comes to the castle and Felix introduces him to the ogres. After some discussion he heals Thogg's wrist.   When Iggle finds out that Felix is a wizard he asks if Felix can make a female ogre like him. A long conversation between him and Clayton follows on the best way for Iggle to impress the female ogre. It even meanders through several species of animals that are in each's home territories that the others don't know. Eventually they convince Iggle to let the lady ogre know how Iggle organized the home in the castle ruins, has two followers, and will have an even better place soon.   Barclay delivers the injured gnar to their village. They offer food and drinks, Barclay declines one of the meats in the selection, as it may be human. He gets a nice, strong gnar kind of ale or beer, and is given a skin full for the road.   At nightfall Barclay shows up at the cave. The noise and attention of insects disturb people at night, otherwise uneventful.   Sukasi 36   The morning comes and they enter the caverns. They go into the draugr chamber and find it empty - the draugr is not there. The sarcophagus has been moved and it is hollowed out underneath. There is an obvious space where the bearded axe came from. There are also 1480 coins there of unknown origin.   The go to the next room. It appears to be some kind of large judgement hall. There is a small trap that is triggered by stepping on the top stair leading up to the throne. They find the trap and Barclay disarms it. After investigating and playing with the throne for a while they find a hidden panel. In one is a small box with a living cricket in it. The cricket is enchanted to never age. The other side has a scroll in it that they can't read.   The leave the throne room and go to the next area, which is a large cavern with a deep hole in the centre of it. Four giant spiders come out, one immediately attacks Clayton and starts to wrap him in its web. He uses a spell to shatter the webs and escape, then kills the spider. Meanwhile Barclay flees back up the passage.   The other three attack - one after Saiya and two after Felix. One jumps on him and he immediately sets it on fire It flees... The other bites him in the leg while Clayton spears it dead. Saiya has shot the other one with an arrow; it, too, dies.   The all go to look at the whole. Clayton throws a torch down it, and sees five spiders rushing up. Felix tries to hit one back into the hole, but misses. They all rush out. Saiya shoots one, killing it instantly. The others attack, but miss, except one that bites Saiya in the lower leg, but her armour protects her. Meanwhile Felix faints from his earlier bite. Saiya shoots at the spider at her ankle and misses -- kind of hard to shoot at your own foot area. Clayton's spell goes off and covers the hole with a new stone formation. Meanwhile the spiders continue to attack, failing to bite through the armour. Clayton quickly casts an anti-venom spell on Felix so that he doesn't die. Saiya kills another spider, then the two remaining party members fight the last spiders until the spiders are all dead. Now the room seems safe, but Clayton wants to make sure, so he thickens the covering on the hole by another half metre thickness. Magic! He uses a lot of his manna to do so. They group decides to rest here so that Clayton can meditate and recover manna.
