The High Priestess

The Second

Mythology & Lore

The Arcane Concord
During a time when The Fool’s chaotic energy began to disrupt the fabric of reality, The Magician called upon The High Priestess to guide him in weaving new spells to stabilize the world. This collaboration birthed the first true arcane language, combining the raw potential of The Fool with The High Priestess’ sacred knowledge. This language became the foundation for mortal spellcasters, allowing them to channel magic without descending into chaos.

This has led to a holiday celebrated in mid-spring. It is especially revered by mages and scholars. This day involves magical displays, teaching rituals, and ceremonies in which spellcasters recite ancient incantations attributed to the original pact between The Magician and The High Priestess. It serves as both a reminder of the power of cooperation and an encouragement to explore the mysteries of the arcane.

Night of the Veil
In an ancient age, The High Priestess and The Moon faced a great calamity when The Devil sought to pierce the divine mysteries guarded by them. Using corruption and temptation, The Devil attempted to shatter The Moon’s dominion over dreams, plunging the world into a nightmare realm where shadows came alive. The High Priestess, wielding her hidden knowledge, sealed the rift between realms, but at the cost of weakening her divine bond with The Moon.

Celebrated in late autumn, when nights grow longer. Devotees hold candlelight vigils and perform rites to ward off evil dreams and seek protection from malevolent forces. Temples stage plays reenacting the struggle, ending with a ritual where participants write their fears on paper and burn them, symbolizing the sealing of darkness.

Cosmological Views

The Veil and the Night
The High Priestess shares a deep, almost secretive connection with The Moon. Both deities symbolize mystery, intuition, and the hidden truths of existence. Together, they are seen as keepers of divine secrets, governing dreams, prophecies, and the unseen world. Devotees of this pairing—mystics and seers—believe that to uncover the divine truths of the universe, one must look within and beyond the veil of the ordinary. Rituals often involve nighttime ceremonies under the moonlight, calling upon The High Priestess’s wisdom to illuminate the path lit by The Moon.
Solitude and Sacred Insight
The Hermit finds a kindred spirit in The High Priestess, with both embodying aspects of solitary search for truth and hidden wisdom. Their relationship represents the pursuit of enlightenment through reflection and study. Scholars, ascetics, and prophets devoted to both deities believe that profound truths are found not in the noise of society but in quiet contemplation. Rituals often involve silence, meditation, and the reading of ancient texts.
