Session 2
This chapter opens with Sam Calas's wound growing worse by the day, and Oryim's suspicions growing deeper of the mysterious sigil. While traveling to Wrain's Hall our heroes stop off at a cross roads and inform the local rangers of the dangers that befell them on the road from M'orn.
Shortly after resting here for the night, they set off again, only to find a young woman and her donkey struggling to pack up her tent. Of course our heroes stopped to aid her, finding out that her name was Cheno and that she was a member of the Mitlind Priory. She examined Sam's would and concluded that it was Ghoul fever and that if it wasn't treated soon, Sam would die and become a ghoul himself. Thankfully, she knew someone who could help.
Upon arriving at Wrain's Hall with Cheno, our heroes found the gates locked and the city guards highly vigilant, despite the approaching rain. According to the guards, Prior Arthis, the city's mayor and prior of the Wrain's Hall chapter of the Mitlind Priory had ordered the guards close the city while they investigate a series of recent murders. Cheno used her connections with both the Mitlind Priory and House Canter to help the adventurers into the city.
Once in the city, Cheno explained to Oryim that the sigil that was bothering him was the symbol of House Canter and should be no cause for concern. She then led the party Prior Arthis and asked for his help removing Sam's affliction. The prior agreed on one condition, that our heroes assist in the investigation, as he believed the case would benefit from a set of fresh eyes.
After meeting with the guard captain to review the case notes the party elected to complete their delivery before questioning one of their suspects. Fortuntely, these people were one in the same, Nathan Cattas the man who also served as House Canter's clerk in Wrain's Hall. He claimed to know all of the victims, but maintained that he didn't see them on the days they were murdered, a fact that the party would soon believe to be a lie.
As Nathan was leaving for work, he handed over his ledger to the party, which revealed the dates and times of each of his meetings. He also informed them that they could find his associate, Big Sal, in the sewers because he "likes rats." When compared to the case notes, these times lined up and it appeared that Nathan had indeed met with the victims the days they were alleged to be murdered. But before our heroes confronted Nathan, they needed more information.
Liaden O'Legal and Oryim picked the lock on Nathan's front door, and proceeded to explore the property for any clues. Eventually, after trigerring some traps and getting shot by crossbows, they were able to uncover a nugget of truth, as they found two desks in the study one used by Nathan, and the other used by Big Sal. While serching the desks they found notes on the dead individuals as well as notes on the locals guards and even Prior Arthis himself. Each page, excluding the Prior's, detailed crimes that each had committed.
Using this information, our heroes absconded from the scene before any guards arrived. Once they were able to catch their breath, they decided to search for Big Sal, hoping that a conversation with him may shed some light on things. Unfortunately for the party, it was too late. By the time they found Big Sal in the sewers, he was already dead. Killed the same way each other victim had been, cut throat and tongue removed.
It was then that the party decided it was time to confront Nathan about the lies. However, once our heroes had returned to the surface, they heard the guard captain call out to them:
