Session 15

As the dust settled in the Crucial Carp, our heroes assessed the scene. While Liaden O'Legal started with tying people up, Oryimand Sam Calas checked the individuals they themselves struck down at the end of the battle. Both were dead. Sam retreated into himself for a moment, as this was the first sentient life he had ever taken. As he stood silent and still with shock, Kalydin removed the cultists' possession, which included: 5 necklaces, some magical weapons and some vials of lethargy poison.

Before the party had time to do much else, The Mistress of Fatoris and her Kobold clerk entered the bar. Giving a brief look around she informed the party that the guards would soon be there. As she chastised them for killing two of the intruders, she also offered to buy the necklaces, offering 200gp for each. Our heroes quickly accepted asking what they should do with the two dead men. The Mistress said that she would "Take care of it." spitting on the two bodies which began to dissolve and corrode away.

Now staring at her in a new light, the party left with their loot. Shortly after they passed a patrol of guards making their way towards the Crucial Carp. With the immediate threat gone, our heroes turned their attention to finding the cultists who weren't at the meeting. The ones that were meant to be "working on the plan." After resting, Sam hatched a plan of having Kalydin impersonate Anthony, the only cultist whose name they knew. To do so they would need the names of each of the scouts who ventured into the caves in hopes that one of them was another intruder.

After a brief visit with Chanor, Fatoris's guard captain, they got a list of names and addresses. However, when they asked about Anthony, Chanor said that he had gone AWOL. Or, at least, that is what the Mistress told him. Deciding not to push the matter any further, as they knew the true story, the party left in search of the other scouts. Their plan was simple, Kalydin would disguise himself as Anthony and act hysterical, claiming that the plan was in shambles and that he needed to see 'Thompson' another guard who was, apparently, away on long service leave. If the scout knew nothing or didn't react in any way, they moved on.

The first house they visited was a dud, the scout knew nothing and was mostly concerned and confused by the borderline insane ramblings. However, the next house proved fruitful. The scout who answered said that they should discuss the matter privately inside, as anyone could be listening. Kalydin, disguised as Anthony, then explained that everyone at the bar last night had been captured and that he only just managed to escape. The scout seemed to buy this and said that they needed to regroup and debrief as soon as possible. After agreeing to regroup, but before deciding on a place, Kalydin frantically asked about Thompson and where he was. The scout looked at him with trepidation, saying that Thompson would do nothing given that he was already dead. Starting to see through the rouse, the scout reminded them that it was Anthony that killed them too.

Thinking fast Kalydin explained that in his hasty escape from the raid on the Crucial Carp, that he had sustained a head injury and that he was struggling to remember parts of the plan as well as parts of the evening that followed. The scout believed him and together the two of them organised to meet with the others in the woods outside the wall. The scout said that Anthony, being in charge, should see the others in the cave to tell them to start the plan early while he went and collected the others ready for tomorrow night. Just before Kalydin could leave, the scout started to speculate on how they could have been found, arriving at the conclusion that their newest member, Wilma, was the only possible explanation. Given this, he would send out the word that she would have to be killed for her treachery.

When Kalydin returned to the party, he told them what was discussed. No detail was left out and our heroes began to hatch a new plan. They decided to split up to achieve two goals. One; informing the Mistress of the cultists' meeting and two; collecting Wilma and her family to keep them safe. Sam and Kalydin were sent to collect the family, while Liaden and Oryim were sent to inform the Mistress. When Liaden and Oryim arrived at town hall, the Mistress was atop the stairs, seemingly waiting for them. Liaden spoke first, entreating her to home the family for long enough while they dealt with the cultists. The Mistress agreed to home them, but said she would deal with the cultists personally.

Sam and Kalydin decided to collect Rakroth first, before retrieving the rest of his family. As soon as Sam mentioned that his family might be in danger, he put down his work and went with them. Though Sam had been struggling with the fact that he had murdered a man, this moment and this purpose helped him focus. He would not let another family be destroyed by misguided and violent faith. When they arrived at Rakroth's house, they were greeted by Cassandra who immediately knew something was wrong. Kalydin told her that they needed to come with them. He told her that Wilma was in danger, and by extension, so were they. Without question Cassandra called out to her two children and told them to come downstairs. The two of them seemed worried and asked what was going on, Cassandra grabbed her scimitar and said that they needed to go somewhere with Sam and Kalydin. for their home wasn't safe right now.

When they eventually arrived at town hall, The mistress greeted them telling her kobold clerk to arrange rooms for them immediately. The Mistress then turned her attention to our heroes. She thanked them for their work in rooting out the intruders. Now that they were all going to be in one place at a known time, she could deal with them more effectively. With their role seemingly done, our heroes returned to their legal team. With their court date only 5 days away, and their business with the Mistress concluded they could focus on their defence once more...
