Vagun

“Big Ones” – According to greenskin lore, the first vagun were made by implanting the beating heart of living trolls into the chests of dead bugbears. Whether this is true or not is up for debate, what isn’t is the resemblance. On their own, they live in small family clans of 6-12 which trade with each other for mates and what they don’t produce themselves. Within the legions, they are used as siege engines, lobbing large stones over distances or soaking up the defenders’ worst while pounding on gates.   Wandering vagun are not uncommon for their kind, and often facilitate trade between the legions as well as the sparse settlements of the Badlands. These are known as “Krogor”, which means wagons. Vagun are less hateful than the rest of the greenskins, and sometimes leave the Badlands out of a desire to get away from the constant warring and violence. A few have been reported seeking aid in liberating the vagun clans entirely from the greenskins, though these ambassadors meet with assassins more often than sympathy.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Vagun speak the goblin tongue and often also common. They speak slowly and simply.

Shared customary codes and values

Vagun are notoriously stoic, and they admire that quality in others. They display their battle scars more than their trophies, and they sit in norker skin chairs telling their young the stories of how they endured.

Common Etiquette rules

Vagun will use the things they kill to their fullest. They also believe in the laws of hospitality.

Common Dress code

Vagun dress as ostentatiously as possible, as a display of their wealth and success.

Art & Architecture

Vagun live in natural or burrowed-out caves. At the mouths of these caves, they'll construct 'porches' out of norker hides and bones. For long-established clans, these porches may have dozens of rooms and several floors.   While most greenskins use Norker parts in their weapons, armor and clothing, the vagun have by far the most coveted crafts. Vagun are also notoriously talented cooks.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

A mated pair can spawn roughly once every two years, and rarely has more than six children over their lifetimes. For this reason, hobgoblins tend to prefer taking the males to war out of conservation practicality. They raise their children as part of the family unit, more or less as humans do.

Coming of Age Rites

Vagun attain adulthood gradually, slowly acquiring more responsibilities as they age until they are full fledged working members of the clans. There is no clear demarcation in their culture as to when they are an "adult," and elders are always more respected than the younger.

Funerary and Memorial customs

When a vagun feels their end is near, they conduct a pilgrimage to the Barrier Mountains, where an open-air graveyard awaits them. Vagun that die before their time or otherwise cannot get to this graveyard are carried their by friends or relatives.

Common Taboos

Vagun will not shed the blood of a relative.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Size denotes success, and success is at a premium. More than any other Greenskin race, they prize jewels and other valuables to decorate themselves.   Aside from sheer bulk, effectiveness is attractive to the vagun. Bulging muscle or wild, childbearing hips are coveted features.   Vagun skin tones are green, gray, and white. Their faces are brutish, with beetlebrows and thick jaws. They stand 7-9 ft. tall, lack body hair, and generally hunch over which can make them appear almost a foot shorter than their full height. Their muscles are knotted and thick, with more above the waist than below. Their arms hang almost to their ankles and end in long fingered mitts. Females often stand straighter than the males, which gives the illusion that they are taller on average. They have wider hips than the males and a softer outline than the gnarled males.

Gender Ideals

Males put feeding and protecting their families above all other concerns. Males without families instead concentrate on acquiring one.   Vagun females tend to be more peaceful, preferring homesteading and norkerding to war, though this is by no means universal. Males are less peaceful, with a touch of the greenskin taste for violence and a desire for adulation. Vagun breed and grow slowly, especially compared to other greenskins.

Courtship Ideals

Vagun courtship is usually handled by their parents. They will work out a complex trade agreement and seal the deal by marrying off their children. For the most part, there is little resistance from the younger.

Relationship Ideals

Most vagun dream of a quiet little cave with a herd of norker and a lucrative web of trade agreements helping to support a nice, large clan of two dozen or so.
