Defences
Neklek is protected by a palisade wall formed from living hawthorn trees, surrounded by a ditch filled with Berrythorn bushes. Tree blinds manned by a town watch overseen by the Militia Sergeant provide an early warning system.
Industry & Trade
Most of the town is dedicated to supporting the wizard and gnome enclaves in the area, as they are the primary sources of outside gold and goods. Otherwise, the town primarily subsists on professional woodcarving exports of furniture, tools, and art objects as well as prime foraging of mushrooms, meat, and forest-floor tubers. A decent fur trade also persists.
Infrastructure
The Golden Tower and the Ley Empire of Gnomekin both struggle for access to the Tower of the Zenith for its ability to create Thairin Gwâs.
A tall windmill extends above the town to harvest wind from above the canopy, rolling a millstone for flour.
Clan Foger owns a series of wells and plies the aquafer to provide the town with water. Their monopoly of the underground lake makes them wealthy in fish.

Tourism
People mostly pass through Neklek rather than go there on purpose, but those who do are generally impressed by the Gnomish influence on the culture and architecture.

Geography
Neklek is built in three layers on an artificial hill built up out of the Great Grass Ocean to join with the Sylvan Knolls. The largest is the lowest, built at a slope so low that it's barely noticeable. The second is built on a sheer plateau 16 ft. higher and flat, with the final and smallest layer on a small 30 ft. hill on which is built an old bailey-style tower. Thick, cultivated woodlands surround the settlement on rolling hills.
Natural Resources
Wood, game, and forage from the Sylvan Knolls provide much of the mundane materials harvested by the town.
