Cleansing Lighthouse

Purpose / Function

Original Purpose:
The cleansing lighthouse was initially built as part of the University of the Arcane.
A tower to study the magic behaviour in elevated heights, to study the stars; to oversee the campus. The lighthouse was the pride of Etherius, a shining example of peace and connection as students of all countries, ages and races were allowed to study there.
This place had brought the world many skilled and wise sorcerers, who achieved miraculous deeds.
An incident in the year 1000 AS cut the foundation, the university was standing on, out of the solid ground. The area around the university got elevated into the sky by magic means taking a cone formed mountain of 4000-meter height with it. The ascension of the reverse mountain didn't stop until the source of the incident put a hold to this debacle.
The tip of the mountain was now hovering in 4000 meters height, while the University of the Arcane rested now at the 8000 meters mark. This incident rendered the cleansing lighthouse partly unusable as the air in the height of 9000 - 11000 meters was simply too thin for any mortal being. While that part got abandoned the lower third got further used. The new location of the Arcane University attracted many new citizens and a city, called Scamall got built around the cleansing lighthouse, which got renamed as the cloud peak tower.
This development continued until the whole city got abandoned in 10 AD as a consequence of the Genesis war. The tower and the surrounding city of Scamall stayed from there on empty.

New purpose:
200 AD. the dust had settled, a new order had risen. The time of the Eternal Counsel had begun. They claimed themselves as gods, as wonders of man, the only ones who had still access to technology beyond the bare essentials.
They provided society with what they needed most; guidance and stable everyday life.
The Eternals claimed Scamall as their empires new capital city and took the cloud peak tower as their new basis of operation, giving it back its former name. The Eternals took the inhabitable part of the tower and turned it into a resident, that can be only entered by an Eternal, claiming the area without air as their domain. As Scamall grew in the coming years, decades, centuries a need arose for a central guided Executive, Judicative and Legislative. They all built their central in the thousand rooms of the cleansing lighthouse, each under the helm of a different god. Executive: Vigor, Judicative: Justitia and Legislative: Terminus.
The fourth goddess, Notitia built her science-centered sanctum outside of the lighthouse in the century project, the Hall of Wonders. The cleansing lighthouse was from that point on the representative symbol of Etherium.

Denizens

The lower floors host many denizens of different age and species, who however are all important figures in the clockwork that keeps Etherium running. High representatives of the Justicicars, Politicians and Military are living and working in those holy halls. Commoners of the lower stand are only allowed in the first two floors and only if they have something to do in the tower that absolutely needs to be done. Cleaning duties et cetera are getting cared of by the mechanical personal of the lighthouse.
There are rumours that those janitors are powered by the poor souls of those, who dared to defy the gods, but this theory got never confirmed.
In the upper floors are housing the Eternals all for themselves, no mortal shall interrupt the condensed divine presence of all the representatives of the pantheon of the Eternal Counsel. As nobody has however ever entered those sacred halls, nobody knows what exactly is up there.

Special Properties

Every room of the tower is imbued with a special material; a defensive mechanism against every possible sorcerer. The metal, called Zabrit, has the properties to dampen the abilities of any magical being in its area of effect. As the lighthouse is a tower of the Purists, nobody should be even affected by this material. And if they do, then everybody else knows what has to do.

Architecture

The cleansing lighthouse is a smooth, silverplated tower of 3000 meters. A huge window battery is spiralling upwards the tower getting smaller and smaller in height with advancing height.
The tower has a foundation of 850 meters in radius which recedes upwards up to a radius of 150 meters in the top levels. The first two floors are considered the entrance levels, where all the official business with Scamall takes place. The following 100 floors get divided between the central stations of the three powers. Nobody knows what happens in the 50 levels, where the oxygen is still present, but too weak for a mortal to move faster than a snail. The floors 153+ are considered the lair of the gods.
Nobody, but the Eternals and their metallic servants, has ever reached that height, as the only way to those floors is over a heavily guarded elevator, that can even fit Vigors massive frame.
The whole inner workings of the tower are screaming abundance, as the decoration consists near entirely out of gold and platin. And every ounce of wealth is ownership of the gods.

Besides the invaluable decoration of the tower, nobody has any idea, what the Eternal Counsel could have stored for riches up there in their lairs.
Artefacts of immeasurable power?
Holy weapons? Riches beyond human comprehension?
The remains of holy people of the land?
Nobody knows and nobody will know unless they manage to ascend into godhood.
But nobody, who hat the chance on doing so has ever said a word either...
