Republic of Rio Grande

The Republic of Rio Grande was a short lived nation following the Mexican Revolutionary War.

History

During the Mexican Revolutionary War, Rio Grande formed from the states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamoulipas from the Empire of Mexico. They revolted against the proclaimed Republic of Mexico, who had called for a unitarian government under a president. Rio Grande wished for a federalized government similar to Gran Colombia, Oregon or even the Kingdom of America. Mexico and Rio Grande, as well as Yucatan, fought for several years, each seeking foreign aid and recognition. The conflict ended in a stalemate, and a peace agreement was signed in Astoria.

Disbandment

Following the war, Rio Grande faced significant political instability. In order to gain support, Rio Grande entered into negotiations with King Edward I and Chancellor Salmon P. Chase. Rio Grande recieved military support in exchange for annexation.
