The Collapse brought an end to the world as it was then known and led Kima and the rest of Eiros into The New Dawn, an age of reconstruction and rebirth.
The Collapse brought an end to the world as it was then known and led Kima and the rest of Eiros into The New Dawn, an age of reconstruction and rebirth.
Following the eruption of Mt. Vyšnak that heralded the start of the Collapse, a thick layer of ash fell over the continent of Kima. After 108 years, it finally cleared.
The Great Decline marked a period in Udira's history where the people felt as if all deities had abandoned them. A massive asteroid from the skies impacted into the center of the continent, destroying lives, settlements, and livelihoods. It took decades for the people to recover.
A group of refugees from the continent of Udira set sail to the west, looking for a land they'd only heard stories about. They found it, and settled.
Following the Great Decline, the Udiran Empire fractured into multiple independent nations. The continent descended into conflict once again, remaining this way for at least a century.
A second wave of refugees fled from Udira to Kima, settling there. This caused strife between them and the original settlers, the Mojčkan people.
Feuyan settlers declared the region of Kima called the "Chema Expanse" a sovereign nation.
Mojčkan settlers declared the region of Kima called the "Katzan Cape" a sovereign nation.
After facing mistreatment at the hands of Feuyans, Mojčkan people revolted and set the city of Anstead ablaze. This eventually led to Mojčkan people being driven out of Chema in droves, moving elsewhere and establishing their own nations.
The Circle, a guild of mages in the Katzan Cape, was established to regulate magic-use within the province.
Mojčkan settlers declared the region of Kima called the "Strica Seaboard" a sovereign nation.
Mojčkan settlers declared the region of Kima called the "Lumarien Plains" a sovereign nation.
A Strican miner found a deposit of a strange, black ore near a petrified tree. They smelt brought it back to their settlement for their village mage to inspect. Upon touching it, however, her fingers came away burnt. The news of this discovery spread across the country.
Entranced by the promise of a material that could keep magic at bay, thousands of people flocked to the Strica Seaboard in an attempt to dig up more aleksium. During this time, the ore was also found in the nearby Barrenwood. Some wanted it for nefarious purposes, others wanted it to study it, and mages wanted to stay as far away from it as possible.
Following the Aleksium rush, Strica sought to tighten its claim on the ore and imposed tariffs upon those who wished to gain access to it. Ephemere and Chema were not happy with this, and launched brutal attacks on Strica. A nineteen-year war ensued, with Chema and Ephemere emerging victorious.
The newly-formed Egren Federation launched an attack on Kima in an attempt to take its aleksium stores. Unfortunately for them, they chose to land in the Katzan Cape, and didn't anticipate the depths of the nation's winters or the loyalty of its residents. Their forces were decimated in a matter of months.
Ezekiel the Red was a tyrant of a mage who kept his subjects in line using blood magic. He ruled the nation of Strica through force and exerted strict control over the exports of aleksium. He was finally taken down after Chema and Ephemere grew tired of his refusal to allow them access to the aleksium.
Following the death of Ezekiel the Red, the Council of Magistry was formed to regulate mages and magic-use across the continent. Blood magic was not yet outlawed at this time, but was heavily monitored.
A magic school was established by the Council of Magistry in Ephemere.
Declining magic in the land of Udira led to a famine that lasted decades. Around that time, a similar affliction hit Kima. Scholars later came to the conclusion that it was due to the massive usage of aleksium in the continent. Once aleksium usage died down, it took awhile, but the famine in Kima eventually ended.
Icemelt from warming temperatures in the Širik Mountains revealed the skeleton of a long-dead dragon. Scholars were able to date it back to the Collapse. This set off a crazed hunt for other dragon skeletons.
A team of scholars and mages attempted to make their way into the Kačkan Abyss. They didn't get very far before it became clear it was unsafe, and they turned back.
Comprised of the first team to explore the Abyss, more scholars ventured into its darkness. They made it farther in, discovering a dragon skeleton. It appeared to be blocking the collapsed entrance to some kind of hollowed out shelter in the rock. They returned shortly after, unable to get past the obstruction. A few of them reported hearing odd noises coming from behind the obstruction.
A third expedition was sent into the Abyss to break through the obstruction. They did make it through, but then things went south. Only two members of the team made it out –– two mages. One passed shortly after emerging from the Abyss, covered in blood and lacerations. The other survived, but seemed to have gone insane, wailing about strange creatures and powerful magic.
The Twilight Brotherhood, a religious order centered around the inevitable return of the dragons, began to gain popularity in Kima and across the sea, in Udira.
Doriathil, a relatively young country with a small military, launched guerrilla raids on the Lumarien Plains, the weakest coast on Kima. It was slow-going, considering Doriathil's small size and firepower compared to Lumarien's disorganized forces. Finally, Katzan warriors joined Lumarien to drive the Doriathilans out.
Doriathilan raiders attacked the Lumarien town of Brighwe and nearly wiped it out entirely. This was easy to do, as most of Lumarien's settlements contained sick and elderly people, and not many young or healthy warriors. This led to a change in Lumarien's social structure, and the settlements began to be manned by warriors and mages. They also pushed the Council of Magistry to reestablish their magic academy.
Intent on expanding its rule and getting rid of competitors, Doriathil attacked the Novarian Empire with the intention of wiping it off the map. The Novarian Empire sent a request for aid to the Council of Magistry, who sent mages to Udira. Doriathil was defeated, but barely, and anger still simmers between the two nations.
The Novarian Empire launched crusades across Udira in an effort to convert their citizens and the other inhabitants of the continent to the Unan religion. Refugees fled to Kima, but the Council of Magistry refused to step in and harm their fragile peace with the empire.
Arnald of Anstead was crowned the King of Chema in the wake of his mother's untimely death. He was only sixteen years old.
King Arnald sent the first expedition into the Abyss since 462. None of them returned.
Some refugees from Udira established the first Unan temple in Kima, in Ephemere. They claimed that they disagreed with the Unan Crusades, but many Kimans were not trusting of their words.
Inez "Nightmare" Nash was a pirate lord who ruled the Lensever Sea for over two decades. Her crew's "home base" was the Ačkan Steppes. Her reign ended upon her death by the plague.
A particularly powerful cyclone ripped through the Lumarien Plains, destroying several camps and ripping the settlement of Nimre to shreds.
A plague wracked parts of Kima for eight years. It was called the "Silent Plague" or the "Silent Killer" because victims showed little signs of infection before dropping dead. This also contributed to its high rate of spread. It was eventually contained by mages.
Upon finding out about an impending Doriathilan Invasion from the Council of Magistry, King Arnald fled Chema, leaving Captain of the Crownsguard Elric to step up in his absence. Elric composed a formal request for aid and unity to the other nations of Kima, pleading with them to unite as one in order to defeat Doriathil.
As the living situation on Udira worsened, particularly in Doriathil, the country decided to try to invade Kima for its resources and magic. Doriathil's military was much larger and stronger than it had been during its last attempt to invade Kima. An invasion was launched that would last six years, resulting in Doriathil's defeat.
After emerging from the Doriathilan Invasion victorious, High Commander Elric created the Senate and declared the Empire of Kima as one, unified country.
The Council of Magistry acquired the Katzan Conservatory of Magic and officially added it to their system of magic academies.
Erin, disappointed with Ragna's actions surrounded the Senate and Elric, decided to reform her own forces. She didn't intend to end up fighting against Ragna, but Ragna took offense at the split and declared Erin's army her enemy.
The Silver Legion attempted to cross into Ephemere by way of the strip of land between the Strica Seaboard and Ephemere. They were met by the Crimson Wing and the following battle had no victors.
Ragna and Erin's forces clashed at Glane, but the battle was really a front for Ragna to go to the Nevregothr Chasm in search of a magical artifact to defeat Erin.
The Silver Legion attempted to get through Coastone so they could reach farther into the Chema Expanse. After twenty-nine days, though, they gave up and retreated.
Ragna's forces, after months of backtracking, rallied and attacked Skoveca. Erin was not present at the battle, so, in a plan to get her attention, Ragna abducted Rolan.
During a diplomatic exchange for Rolan, Sade cast a curse on Erin.
Ragna's forces invaded Anstead. Without Erin, they were doomed to lose.
Upon winning the war, Ragna crowned herself the Empress of Kima. She immediately put in place restrictions regarding Erin's former forces and magic.
