Lord Gavin Bronzecourt
The eldest son of Duke Owain Bronzecourt, Gavin Bronzecourt is nearing thirty years old and aspires to demonstrate to his father that he is capable of succeeding his father as Duke of Whiteport. However, Gavin is prideful, narcissistic, and indulgent, and lacks his father’s martial talents (though he possesses a particularly keen mind, participating more regularly in the administration of the Duchy, albeit in secret since his father denies him an official place in the small council). Gavin is quick to offend and take offense, and fanatically defends his family from perceived insults and slights, and keeps the company of various sycophants and petty nobles who seek to win positions at court through his favor. Despite this, Gavin yearns to be a good ruler and Duke, and has won many of the common folk through both his strong sense of honor and evening performances as a bard in Whiteport’s various inns and taverns (when he isn’t getting into drunken brawls). Gavin is almost 30, although he looks young for his age, and has curly black hair and a black goatee which he keeps well trimmed.

History
Stilicho and Gavin have had a long and complicated relationship. Stilicho was briefly assigned as Gavin's tutor before their clear incompatibility drove Duke Owain to reconsider, and Stilicho is still willing to advise Gavin or tutor him (but privately feels he is a lost cause and his efforts would be better directed helping Duke Owain educate a more suitable heir, Rhiannon). For his part, Gavin resents his father's closeness to Stilicho and feels Stilicho has poorly advised his father, while Stilicho views Gavin as a brash, petulant lordling who has yet to mature into his power.
Nicknames & Petnames
Gavin has been widely known to derisively call Stilicho "my father's quill," "the great bore."

History
Gavin and Bastian have an extremely complex relationship. Gavin both admires Bastian, and sees him as a potential role model, but is also aware of Bastian's potential threat to his position. However, the two are friends, as Bastian seems to have made himself Gavin's ally, especially in increasing Gavin's role in Whiteport's governance and in supplanting Stilicho's position as Duke Owain's closest advisor. Gavin sees Bastian as a friend, mentor, potential rival, and person to emulate, and in many ways Bastian is the many Gavin believes his father wants him to be, and Gavin envies and resents him for it.
