Thornhill House

Purpose / Function

The Sisterhood has utilized Thornhill as the training grounds for their warriors, spies, and pillow dancers for generations; not every woman is cut from the same cloth, but each woman serves a purpose and finds a home in Thornhill.  From the mundane tasks of working simply for food and shelter, to more intricate tasks such as learning to fight and harness their inner magics, every woman in Thornhill finds her purpose.

Architecture

Massive obsidian walls, ranging from ten to almost sixteen feet in height line the entire complex, with intersparced parapets and watchtowers lends itself as far more of a fortress than any sort of training ground.  Thick iron gate structures, with massive, intimidating portcullis' and obvious arrow slits and oil-ditches can be seen, giving the impression that Thornhill could survive any siege, mundane or magical in nature.

The original builders dedicated the entire complex to Dergati, and several images of Shrikes, the favored animal of the Unseen Goddess, can be seen acid-etched into the walls.

History

With it's cornerstones laid in 36BD, Thornhill House was purpose built as a monastery and training ground, bankrolled by a number of noble families within Zoluren.  When built, it was meant to house a sect of monks devoted to the dark goddess Dergati, but those plans were rooted out by the authorities and the cult was broken up.  Construction was completed, but no group lay claim to the structure until approximately 21BD, when a monk order devoted to Periel arose, calling themselves the Sisterhood of the Ivory Thorn.

In 20BD, it was given the formal name of 'Thornhill House' and has served as the training grounds for their order for nearly two and a half centuries since.

Tourism

Anyone is welcome to visit Thornhill, though large portions of the complex are off-limits to anyone who is not a sworn sister of the order.  However, it's matte black walls and scantily clad defenders bring in hundreds of tourists each year, eager to catch a glimpse of the warrior women contained within.
