Umbar Crisis: Councilors

The Councilors are one of the four major factions in the Umbaric Succession Crisis. They wish to abolish Umbar's matriarchy altogether, as they feel it has lost its legitimacy over the centuries. In its place, they wish the Speaker that is already elected by the Council of Umbar be the leader of the entire city, rather than simply the voice of its legislature.

Uneasy alliance

While their end goals are completely different, Speaker Wosa has posited that the Councilors merely desire to be an alternative if the missions to find Vraisos the Bright remain unsuccessful. The current status quo is a manifestation of this; the Council of Umbar remains as the main ruling body under the blessing of the Church of Light while treks into the Shifting Sands are ongoing.

Neutral

House Daukodeth intentionally remains a moderating force within the Council of Umbar, and rarely participates in any contentious debates.

Occasional swing vote

House Hobétotho is a frequent swing vote between the Councilor and Reformist factions of the Council of Umbar, yet slightly favoring the Reformists.

Competing interests within the Council of Umbar

While House Vátrodotho typically supports House Mílaukë during debates and when voting, it is often done out of distaste for House Khúsoë's proposals rather than as support of House Mílaukë's. However, House Vátrodotho does typically favor the Councilors's positions on security related issues.

Rivaling ideals

The Councilors disagree with the Reformists over the maintaining of the position of Radiant. The Councilors feel the position has overstayed its welcome, and that enabling the Speaker of the Council of Umbar the Radiant's powers would ensure stability within the city, both in the short term and the long term.

Incompatible ideals

As the Populists seek for the total abolition of the Council of Umbar, the nobility, and the Church of Light, the Populists serve as a direct threat to everything the Councilors aim to achieve and maintain. Speaker Wosa has directed all appropriate resources to efforts of squashing dissent from Populist-sympathizers and to the citywide manhunt for its (allegedly) terrorist leader, Ikaros Arainai.
